Question Detonation

Ok, I think I have a serious problem on my hands. After my car has been running for a bit or after I get on the pedal some I hear a sound from the engine bay that sounds like a train that you would hear in a old western, except the frequency is about 6 to 8 times a second. This has been bugging me for some time and the dealer said it is the fuel injectors but I think not because why would I only hear them after I get on the gas??? I checked the belt and there is no slack and to the eye everything seems to be ok. Also I have a CAI in my car, could that throw something off? I had the battery unplugged for two hours or so while I was putting it in. If someone could please help me I would be in great debt to them.

Does this go away after a while? What year and what motor is in your car?

It only goes away after the engine has been turned off and doesn''t come back until after it's back on and warmed up. I can mainly hear it around 2000RPM give or take 300. It is a 2002 V6.

As far as detonation, I remember my car was on the dyno and they shut it down becasue it was leaning out...I did not hear any difference. The described it as tons of little ball bearings bouncing aroound a metal pot. So that said, I went racing and on a 125 shot of the giggle gas I heard what sounded like my caras drag radials picking up rocks/pebbles and hitting the fender wells, I let off and headed to the pits where I was informed that's detonation, I was leaning out. Anyway, a can of torque race gas remedied that problem. Hope this helps you figure out what the noice is? List some mods, anything new?

So if my problemis detonatoin how can I make it go away on a 02 V6 with a home made CAI? only other mods are a raised gas pedal, and Steeda clutch adjuster kit.

There's no way you can be detonating with just those little mods. Did you possibly advance the timing too much? What does your temperature read at? If it gets too hot, it can detonate. Check your timing and check your cooling system if it shows too hot.

or if you're using too low of a fuel octane (i.e anything below 89) or like nestle said timing advanced too far. but being a 2000 with no distributor i would prob rule that out..

Oh yeah...lol, I forgot about the distributor part. I'm too used to my fox body I suppose.

I did not touch the timing at all and I am running 93 octane. I tried Octane boost and got the same thing and I tried 89 and still got it. As I said before, I'm not sure about marbles in a can but definatly the Western Train at 7 times a second or so. I'm soooo confused
