Exclamation Mustang Transmission Breakdowns

we race at Myrtle Beach Speedway and have a pinto transmission in our mustang and the shifter is really really bad cause it only screws into the houseing and the threads are plastic.

we have been told u can take off the tail part of a mustang tranny and put it onto the pinto to have the bolted in shifter.

we for the life of us can not get thetailshaft setion off the mustang transmission so i was wondering if any has a breakdown to what might be holding it in place.

so far what we have done is take off the 4 bolts at the back and we also took out the detant at the front of the houseing for the shifter to stay in gear and it starts to slid out but stops there and we cant find anything else that is holding it.

anymore info would be great and thanks ahead of time Eric

Ok, what engine is it and what year is the trans? Ford used more than a couple 4spds in the early 70s though this sounds like a RAD or SROD 4spd in which case I'd T5 swap it.

they are all out of the fox body style stangs.

we are running a pinto tranny and wanna put the tail shaft section of the mustang tranny onto the pinto tranny but we cant figure out how to get it apart.

we race circle track not drag so the gear ratio in the pinto give us what we need but the shifter is just junk
