Default Hissing and squeaking sound with foot off of clutch

Hey all, I am having some issues with my clutch or transmission. Some people are telling me I need a new throw out bearing and some are saying that my tranny is crapping out. Thought I would share my problem and get some more opinions. So here goes, this is whats happening. I start up the car take my foot off of the clutch pedal and hear a intermittant hissing sound with a bit of a squeaking or chirping sound. When I put my foot on the clutch pedal the noise completely goes away. So I shift into gear and start driving. When I accelerate I can hear the squeaking noise get a higher pitch as the rpm's increase, and when I put my foot back on the clutch to change gears the noise goes away then the noise starts again increasing in pitch with rpms. During this time the car is making the hissing noise as well which also goes away when putting my foot on the clutch pedal. Makes the noise the most when the car is cold. After the car is warmed up the noise goes away completely. Hopefully I have explained this well enough, I am a complete noob when it comes to this type of thing. Thanks in advance for your input

Adam

Well, for my bank accounts sake I really hope thats what it is. I'm not having any shifting issues, just this stupid noise that annoys the hell out of me. If it's just the throw out bearing I will more than likely get a whole new clutch put in while they got the tranny dropped. Not too bad a price either, 280$ in labour plus parts depending on what I go with.

Change your clutch. I was having the same kinda problem but mine made a whining noise when the clutch peddle was pushed in, changed out the clutch this past Saturday and its gone. Also had the hissing sound. My throw out bearing was Shot. I bought the clutch kit at Advance Auto for $150 & luckily my girlfriend's grandfather is great with cars and put it in for free in one day w/ some assistance from me. Hopefully this helps. BTW my clutch & throw out had 150,000 miles on them.

i had the same problem & I pulled the transmission & replaced the throw out bearing & the noise went away. I had problems with this twice. I have not had the problem again since the last bearing came from centerforce and not a cheap one from the local parts store.

Well I guess now its convincing the mechanic thats what it is, hes telling me that if its the throw out bearing that it would only make noise when I put my foot ON the clutch. He says it shouldnt make noise in neutral because its not spinning until you put your foot on the clutch, is this true?

Sorry I purchased a "cheap one from a local parts store". Just thought since he mentioned he was on a budget any information would be helpful. Not everyone has $400-500 to spend on a clutch alone when a $150 clutch will suffice.

No its not true, their is still a little pressure on throw out bearing with your foot off the clutch, I have been a mechanic for 20 years and mine did the same thing yours is doing when i push the clutch in the noise went away, dont buy a cheap clutch from advance or autozone either, I did that the first time with my mustang & when i lined up to race a lexus I dumped the clutch and went nowhere, I smoked a clutch with 3000 miles on it so i put in a centerforce dual friction clutch assy. and been driving it for 6 years with no problems. and i have a few ponies under the hood

Mine was doing the opposite of what yours was. I'm no mechanic. Some other people on the site will have some very helpful advice though just give it time. I just thought I would try and help. Everyone on here is very helpful. Good luck.
