Default T5 T45 transmission will they interchange and how can I tell them apart? 1991 Mustang

Hi I have a 1991 mustang LX with a 5 speed and a 4 cylinder engine and I must admit that it gets the beans ran out of it. I have been told the transmission is known as a T45. And that the V-8 version is heaver duty and known as a T5. Will the T5 fit where the T45 is now? And when Looking how can I tell them apart? It seams that almost all used 5 speeds are T5s. Hummmmmm,,,How do I know it's a T5? And is this what they are known as? Lee

The T-45 came in 96-01 Gts and has a the bell housing as part of the case so it looks nothing like a T-5. Also the T-45 bolts up to a 4.6 or 5.4 mod motor not a 2.3 or 5.0

Yes the ones with the 4 banger are much weaker and will not handle V8 power for very long.

IF the 4 popper has a T5 and a V8 5.0 has a T5, you might have to check the numbers with ford. The 4cyc T5 will be alot weaker on the internals that the 5.0 T5. See if you can find a part number or tag on the tranny and research it. But like mentioned, yeah a T-45 will only fit if you put a mod motor in your car.

the t-5 on a 4 cylinder car is a hell of a lot smaller, cheaper parts, different ratio, and wont last near as long if you put on a v8 car

When/If you but a 5.0 to do the swap, get the transmission with the engine.

engine/trans combo cheaper, and you know itll work
