Default 1966 Mustang 289 Transmission question

I just purchased a 1966 mustang coupe with a 289 and a 3 speed manual transmission. I really know nothing about mechanics and want to change this to a 4 speed with a hurst shifter. Can you tell me all information I need to know when attempting to buy the correct parts. Can you also estimate what the entire job including parts and labor might cost.
Thanks
Jim

It shouldn't be too hard, just a new clutch would be a good idea, as would a new flywheel, do them both while you have it out. As far as I know, it should be a straight swap. If not, you can ask Veronica, she knows the classics as well as anybody.

I can tell u when changing out ur 3speed to a 4speed you need to take the bell housing off ur 3speed and put on the 4speed for it to work and change drive shaft.but did you know you can use up to a 5speed out of a 1986 to 1993 mustang transmison and they will fit fit ur 1966
