Convertible motor not working consistantly? Any suggestions?
My convertible motor seems to work when it wants to. I can go up and down, but the motor will kick in when it feels like it. lol. It kinda acts like my girlfriend...lol j/k. I have to pins pulled, so its now a manual top, but would like a power top back. I have replaced both relays, with the same results. I also replaced the motor with one from a friend, and it just didnt work (I wa told, "It worked when it came out of the last car" famous last words...lol) It seems like the motor might have a dead spot in the windings. Anyone else have this problem?
Yep , had that poblem in a 2000 . My kid had some stuff in the trunk that had made a hole in the line where the fluid goes . I fixed the hole in line and added fluid to the motor . Sounds like your fluid is low . If so it will work at times slow stop and start again . Just add fluid to the motor . In ours it was that but getting fluid in was kinda tricky . Wrong tool I guess but never the less it started back working proper . Hope this helps .
Low fluid would cause it to work intermittently? Thats weird, the motor doesnt have a low oil sensor off switch like a Honda lawn mower. lol I did add fluid one time. Lets just say my trunk was covered in ATF after the seal broke. lol I guess I should have read some instructions before playing with high PSI pumps dealing with non-compressibles. lol

I have posted this before but here we go again. I had this problem with one of my verts and it was the switch going bad. I tried cleaning the switch and contacts but that only lasted a week or so. I ended up replacing the switch and VOILA no more problem.
Sorry I am new here. But thanks.. I will try the switch and see what happens

i had the same problem-- top would not go up or down at times. my father in law told me to tap the motor gently while he tried the switch, indicates winding has dead spot-- replaced motor 2 yrs. ago-- no problems!!!
