4 cylinder gas saver disguised as a hot rod? Great for first time driver Ok I know everyone seams to be down on the idea of a nice looking 4 cylinder. But,,I have been building cars for a long time now and I have come to the conclusion that a car should be built to do what it is going to be used for the majority of the time. But no one likes to drive a drokmobile. So when it came time for my son to finally get his drivers licence we decided that it would be fun to build his first car as a father and son project. With the high price of fuel and dad worried about the well being of his son learning to drive we decided that a 4 cylinder engine would be our power source. Now for picking out a car,,,, That was a no brainer the mustang would be our trusty stead. The 4 cylinder mustang can be bought at a reasonable price and there really easy to work on. And they look great with only a few modifications. We found a rust free 92 LX 5 speed in good running order for $800. We installed a custom fiberglass hood, Two gauges in chrome cups mounted on the outside, a wing on the back and some cobra emblems. We did a little body work and sent it off to maaco.(bright red) WOW, dose it look good. And as my son said,,,, "the girls don't know the difference" It gets 34 MPG on the expressway and looks like a 500 HP fire breathing hot rod. Were both happy with the outcome A great car for a new driver. And I got to know my son a little bit better while working on this project Lee |
