Default 1995 Mustang gt check engine light

hi i have a 1995 mustang gt with the 5.0 in it and it runs really weird sometimes itt feals like there is a miss but its hard to notice, then after driving the check engine light will come on and turn off a little while later but then other times it will stay on untill i shut the car off so i decided to run it through a scanner it should be obd1 but only the obd2 scanner adaptor will fit "i was using a scanner for obd1, obd2 and the new can" but the scaner reads vehicle not responding.. any ideas on what could be up i replaces plugs and wires for the miss but it doesnt feal like its missing all the time?
