Default 289 Carb Identification 1965 Mustang

Hi

Would like to identify the carb on my 65 289 A Code Auto.
It has a 4 barrel with manual choke.
It has Carter AFB Competition Series on a plate on the front.
Stamped on the left front of the base is 9605S 1444.
Searching the net sugests it is actually a Edelbrock/Carter as do the pictures. I can't find a Edelbrock listing for 1444.
The car runs fine with it, just uses heaps of fuel.
Even if I just re-jet it, I will still need to know what it is so I can order the right parts.
Any help would be appreciated.

The 4bbl that came on the car was a "Ford" 4bbl not a Carter, so instead of getting parts , just get a different 'New' carberator.
But if you really want to rebuild. then hears a site

Thanks for your reply.
I was aware the original carb would have been an Autolite 4100 480cfm or variant of.
I would change back to original if I could find a good one at a resonable price. They are not as readily available over here.
That is a excellent site you directed me to, I wish we had something like that here. I have since managed to ID my present carb & have found specs for it. After some calculation I swaped the secondry & main jets. Soldered up the mains & drilled them out to a smaller gauge. Bit lean on the 1st attemp but spot on after the second.
Got a run comming up next week I'll do a fuel check on it then.
If it works out ok I'll just order a new pair of jets, don't know how long solder will last.

New Zealand
That’s a bit away. From everything.
I was in Sydney once and got on this hydro foil and headed for NZ. about 1/2 way there the seas got so rough we turned around. We were disappointed , but glade to get back in harbor. There are some big waves around NZ. You may have noticed.
There should be no reason a shipping company couldn't ship anything on that site to you, The world is getting smaller. Does your mustang have left or right hand steering?

My car is LH steer, it was imported from California in 2004.
Regarding buying parts from US: It's the shiping & handling fees that kill it. For example to buy a pair of carb jets from that site for $9.99 would finish up costing me around $50 NZ to get here.

$50? dang. I would move to Texas. OH wait , I already live hear.
How about making friends with a Yank and he could get the part and ship it to ya. But then, maybe it does cost $40. to ship a $10. part to NZ.
