Hey everyone!
I'm really excited to announce a general schematic of
our next cruise, which will be held on Sunday, May
18th! Time and specific details will be posted in a
flyer/official announcement. I just thought I'd share
with you the results of a couple weeks' planning,
driving (to make sure roads are top notch), all while
finding some really unforgettable sights in CT.
So... for a general outline... we’ll be cruising the
back roads of Northeastern Connecticut to enjoy the
abundant scenery and twisty roads. We’ll be exploring
some of Connecticut’s most gorgeous spring sites!
Really, I think this is one of the most beautiful and
fun-to-drive routes (aside from our big summer
cruises) I've explored and planned! If I love it, I
know you all will, too!
The majority of our trip will take us cruising down
state scenic roads, exploring the hills and lowlands
of the northeastern vineyards and farms. We'll see
some nostalgic New England farmhouses, plenty of
pretty ponds, brooks, and streams, and of course --
lots of nice, open road for cruising.
Our itinerary is going to have two highlight stops,
one of them being a "tourist stop," the other being a
food stop.
Our first will be a brief stop at one of the USA’s
smallest and oldest operating Ford dealerships in the
nostalgic center of Eastford, CT. We might stop for
pictures (we'll figure that out by popular vote), or
we'll just park quickly and loop around. The town
center is truly something nostalgic... it looks like
it's straight out of 1950, minus the new cars out
front. This won't be very far from the next leg of our
cruise.
We will then proceed to drive on the next part of the
cruise for a late afternoon lunch/snack break to The
Vanilla Bean Café in historic Pomfret, CT. The Vanilla
Bean Café has received numerous accolades and awards
from food reviewers and prestigious publications such
as The New York Times and the Boston Globe. They offer
sandwiches, wraps, soups, and a variety of entrees.
They also sell local sodas and delicious desserts, for
which they have also received awards. For the
vegetarians: Vanilla Bean has been voted the "Best
Vegetarian" in the area.
This cafe was even the official launch site of Coca
Cola company’s Vanilla Coke soda in 2002! Their menu
is comparable to any other gourmet sandwich shop and
ranges from about five dollars for a soup with bread,
to twenty dollars for the biggest entrees. They have
an award-winning chili recipe on their menu. Gourmet
sandwiches with chips range between $8-10. Their food
is well-seasoned, fresh, and prepared to be absolutely
delicious by their sous chef. The offerings at the
Vanilla Bean are sure to please. You can check out
their menu at
Welcome to The Vanilla Bean Cafe
I re-drove the route a couple times, have mapped
things out, and I must say that we will be enjoying
endless scenery on this cruise. Once again, I'm really
excited!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!
