Default All season tire recommendations?

Hi All

I'm the proud new owner of a 2002 GT. I need to put tires on it, and also need to use it as a daily driver during NH winters. I would prefer to put all seasons on it rather than dedicated winter tires.

What can you all tell me about winter driveability of this car? Is the traction control good enough so I can use all-season tires in the snow? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter?

The tires I'm think of are Pirelli PZero Nero M&S.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi I am in the same boat as you are. I have a 2002 GT and this will be my first winter. I'm thinking the traction control is not going to be that great and I am going to get snow tires or put some sand bags in the trunk or both. I just cahnged my gears to 3.73's so I will spin out easier now.
Let me know what you decide to do.
Jerry

i have driven 5 different stangs through the winters now. definitely change your wheels/tires. my current 98 cobra will have a set of v6 stang wheels on it with all season tires. the narrower the tire the better. its not THAT bad with good tires. last year i drove my 97 gt through the winter with 265/35/zr18s. yikes! i got nowhere. it can also take a toll on your clutch, trying to get your tires to stop spinning!

I just ordered some Continental ContiExtreme Contacts in the 245/45-17 OEM size. (the Pirelli's were back-ordered 4 months!)
Even though the Conti's are Z-speed rated High Performance tires, they get really good ratings for snow traction on Tirerack. I hoping that they'll be fine. I've done the whole swapping-for-winter-rims thing and it drove me nuts that I had to put up with crappy traction and handling for several months, even though there was only snow on the roads once a week or so.
I know they won't be anything close to Blizzaks, but hopefully they'll be a happy medium....

badass98svt -- You belong to any of the local clubs? I'm gonna join the New Hampshire Mustang Club.
I've know a couple of members and have been to a couple of their meets.
The SVT sounds very cool. Like to see it some time.

Silverjay -- I was done in Virginia Beach only about 3 weeks ago for my suster's wedding. Lots 'o Mustangs down there!
Actually, I was born in Va Beach too. But that's was many, many years ago.

Ahhhhh! Damn. I don't know what I was thinking or why I hadn't noticed -- but that was a serious typo. Should be 2002 GT. Thanks for catching it. All set now.
