Bummer. Starting April 1st, NH will have a statewide emmisions test as part of the yearly vehicle inspection. It's not a pipe-sniffer test, but one that plugs into your computer and checks with all the sensors. It can also can scan for error codes to make sure ABS systems, etc. are working. It sounds like Big Brother has finally come to NH.

Anyone seen this kind of test before? Is it better or worse than a pipe-sniffer? The article says the Vermont is currently using the same test.

Be glad you don't live here in California where they strap your car on a dyno and stick the sniffer in the tailpipe.

they do the same thing in mass. i live in nh but i just got my sticker a few weeks ago. i do think that the test that plugs into your computer is worse than the dyno sniffer test.

Plugging into the PCM is part of the "visual" test here in CA. If there are ANY error codes, you automatically fail. The visual is the easy part of the test.
