Lots of differing opinions out there as to how to prep your vehicle for winter storage. This is my first year and I would like to hear the opinions of those that have been down this road before. Unless I'm advised differently, I intend to remove the battery and keep it at home on trickle charge, change the engine oil, top inflate the tires and cover with a cloth car cover. Would you recommend anything else?

i have yet to find some one else who when changing their oil ( every 2000 miles or when they get bored ) details the under side of their car.

Mine is kept in a heated garage, I add fuel stabilizer and put on a car cover over a clean car. I have these rollers that I place the car on and take some of the weight off the car with jack stands. Finally, a box of cow brand in the interior.

Thanks for posting that question Neil! I am still in denial that I will have to eventually stop driving my car... I just love her too much! But some great tips here! I have to go look for a car cover for sure.
Cheers!
I've been storing my car for 13 years - 6 of which have been unheated...here's what I do
1. Stabil in the tank while driving it to the garage (just so it mixes well with the gas)
2. If you wash it beforehand make sure its dry when you store it especially if its to be stored in an unheated place OR you'll be sorry in the spring ie brake corrision etc
3. I usually store it on dollies - but that's mostly because I want to push it to the corner inorder to get maximum effeciency of the garage footprint
4. disconnect the battery and hook it to trickle charge - but I've stored it without and everything ok in spring
5. If its on concrete and unheated, I usually have several layers of heavy cardboard between the floor and car to absorb the dampness if there's any
6. Certainly cover it
7. If you have the option and its unheated, it doesn't hurt to have 2-3 60w light bulbs on, underneath or around the car - just to keep temp warm and dry - but that could be considered overkill
8. and finally and most importantly, at least once a month go by check it, give it a hug and make sure it knows you miss it and still love it
good luck
Well... I put my car to bed yesterday (sigh... it was a tearfull goodbye)! Thanks to all for the storage tips! I'm number three in a heated garage that can hold about 20 cars, meaning that there's going to be about 17 cars between me and the door in the spring. I can only hope that everyone will be as eager to get back on the road as I will!
