A little history to start I guess, last year I came up with the idea that I wanted to do the Hot Rod Power Tour for my 40th birthday (which isn't for almost 6 more years), but that was my plan, and because I'm expecting to have 2 or 3 of my buddies take this trip with me, I felt I had to come with something fitting to do the tour in. Having had a number of Mustangs and Capris over my driving career, I only thought it fitting to continue on the Fox platform, just find something a little roomier. So my quest began haphazzardly looking for a 4 door Fairmont or Zephyr, especially seeing the blue Fairmont Joe built some years ago. The greater challenge would be finding a (hopefully) rust free car here in the middle of the Atlantic on the Eastern end of the earth, Newfoundland. As luck would have it I was looking through the local buy and sell a few weeks back and there was an ad for a 1980 Fairmont, call for details. After finally contacting the owner, a 72 year old lady who had bought the car new, I came to find out it was the Holy Grail of roomy Fox Bodies, a 1980 Stationwagon, 66,810 kms (42,000 miles), driven from May to October, stored winters, seats, carpet and interior covered to death with everything from household carpet to bed sheets. The car was practically new. She recalled the back seat had been sat in once when she had brought someone to a funeral, and adamently proclaimed that her husband had never driven the car. As I parted with my $2800, the lady continued to wipe the car down with the blanket she had taken off the dash. With the car finally home, the process begins of figuring out what to do with it. The straight six and drivetrain will go eventually in favour of an EFI 5.0 Mustang drivetrain, but I am really struggling what to do with this thing for wheels. It's has the smaller 4 lug front disks and 10 rear drums, I aquired all the sn95 front spindle and brake setup today to and hopefully I'll have the 5 lug axle stuff for the rear soon as well. I'll be upgrading to the 13/11.65 Cobra brake stuff over next winter. Any suggestions or photochops to give me some ideas for wheels, after all, they can make or break a car.
Thanks,
Tim
Sorry about the long winded post...
