The AV8R Mustang is truly “One-of-A-Kind”

Ford has been hammering out a number of Mustang variants over the past few years, with most of the being performance oriented. The newest, and potentially hardest to get, is the 2009 AV8R edition Mustang built for the EAA AirVenture starting at the end of the month.
The reason the AV8R will be so difficult to own is that Ford Racing has made only a single unit of the F-22 inspired sports car. It will be auctioned off at the 2008 Gathering of the Eagles which is part of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) AirVenture. All proceeds will go toward EAA's Youth Education program.
The vehicle began as a stock 2009 Mustang GT. From there, Ford put on a supercharger kit and a racing tuned exhaust to bring the total output up to 400 horsepower. Also included is Ford Racing's Handling Pack which nets you dampers, lowering springs, an anti-roll bar kit and strut tower braces. GT-500 wheels and performance tires complete the road gripping package.
Since this is a "one-of" Mustang, it has to stand out. To accomplish this, Ford Racing borrowed the California Special's front and rear fascias as well as the integrated rear spoiler. On top of that lays a custom "Satin Silver" paint with gloss black accents. The final touch is a "Circle-In-Star" insignia incorporated into the Mustang's new glass roof along with custom made badging and graphics.
On the inside you can look forward to aviation inspired panels and trim as well as "Bomber Jacket" leather inserts. The Bullitt shift knob also found its way into the AV8R Mustang.
If you are interested in checking out the AV8R Mustang or possibly placing your bid, the event takes place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It will start on the 28th of July and go through to the 3rd of August. The auction itself will be held on the 31st of July. It sure to bring collectors and avid followers of the Mustang from all over the nation.
