Fred is on I-35 East heading in to Dallas after driving 2470 miles into the rally. After a lunch and fuel stop at the Ford Country Lewisville dealer ship exit 452 he is stuck in traffic at the end of the pack. Thanx to BrenSpeed I'm getting great gas mileage. Got a late start today out of Oaklahoma City due to a night at the Holiday Inn OKC North. Off 6200 Robinson Ave. 1-405-843- 5558. He would like to let the girls back home know there missed while hes away and loves them dearly..........

Thanks for the update Fred! Sounds like you and Nathan are enjoying the cruise. Thanks for posting pictures! I know it must be difficult to check in here at AFM, being that you are on the road.
Glad to see you were the one taking the picture of the police officer from across the road and that it wasn't you getting stopped
We do appreciate your updates so hope to hear from you again soon.
Hey all, we are still on Interstate 20 at mile marker 89 approximately 40 miles from Birmingham. We have put 3160 miles on the car so far. I am in a pack of 4 cars, lead car is a canary yellow saleen followed by a red roush age 3, and a blue stock mustang GT. I have shared my cancer story and encouragement with 25 people today. We were live broadcast with Sterling radio station KPMX this morning with Andy Rice, whom I want to say thank you very much for being a good friend and spreading the word. To my wonderful wife and daughters at home we are almost to our destination, and looking forward to heading home, and back into your arms. We have taken over 1700 photos , got some realllllly cool video and enjoying the beautifully green scenery. We are averageing 23.8 mpg during this trip. Thank you brenspeed for such a great tune Cool 2 more cars just pulled up behind me!!!!!! Now there is 6 of us. We are almost to the finish line.
Fred and Nathan have finished the Mustangs Across America cruise, they rolled into Birmingham, AL today, and as I was talking to Fred on the phone, they were on their way to the Barber Motorsports Park, where Fred is going to try to get onto the Speedway and snap some pics (and hopefully run a few laps!).
They're 3200 miles into their trip right now, and today they went to the giant Mustang rally that celebrated the end of the Mustangs Across America trip. How many Mustangs at the rally? Around 850. All the cars from the trip as well as a few local clubs and other trip groups showed up. Fred has about 200 pictures just from today alone, and once some technical glitches are worked out, there's going to be a huge addition to the galleries!
A special shout-out from Fred goes to Marcello Canitano from Silver Horse Racing (I hope I spelled that right, if not, my apologies!). Marcello and Silver Horse are one of Fred's sponsors and they provided a new honeycomb taillight panel to further customize Fred's ride. Thanks, guys!
And speaking of customization, Fred and Nathan are drawing a lot of eyes on the trip. He's had a bunch of guys come up and ask where he got his car outfitted. Fred proudly responded, saying that the work was done at the Busted Knuckle Garage (aka, his driveway). In his travels, Fred also talked to a man by the name of Jeremy Pryor from TeamDetroit.com. They interviewed him and Nathan and asked Fred what he would do if he had a brand new 2010 GT500 Mustang. Fred said that he would drive it home, have his wife pack up all the kids in their Explorer, and then drive to his mother-in-law's house. Once they were there, they'd leave the kids for a few days and wouldn't come back until they had done 3000 miles.
One of the places they'd probably go on that trip is out to California to meet up with some of Fred's newest friends, John and Lilly. Those two ran into some bad luck around Dallas when their '67 Mustang lost a valve in the engine. Fred stuck around with them to make sure they didn't get stranded and they struck up a friendship. Unfortunately, the '67 was down for the count and needed a new engine and to be shipped back to California. John and Lilly didn't bow out, though. They were able to rent a GT500 and continue on with the group.
Nathan's doing well, and Fred says he's the greatest co-pilot a person could ask for. He's working hard to keep the road grime from building up and he's talking to all the other fellow Mustangers on the trip, handing out AFM stickers and having a great time. Back at Carroll Shelby's place, Nathan had used his own money to pick up a bunch of t-shirts, and they realized later that they were sized XXXL. Well, the shirts may be big, but they make great giveaways to all the young kids that show up at the Mustang rallies. As Fred told me, "Kids like their clothes baggy nowadays, right?"
Tomorrow, Fred and Nathan will be departing from Alabama and heading to Atlanta. Fred has been in contact with some people from the Kennedy Space Center and has been sharing his story, and hopefully he'll hear back soon as to whether or not he and Nathan will be able to get in and have a tour and take some pictures. It's an extra 8 hours of driving to get down there, and that's a long way to go to just stand outside a fence looking in. But, it'd be a great experience, so let's hope that the folks at Kennedy Space Center give Fred some good news in the next day or so!
One final tidbit: Fred came up with a new badge of honor that is being shared among the other drivers of Mustangs Across America, and those drivers have been putting on shows for his camera. As soon as he's able, Fred will be putting those videos up on YouTube and linking them into the thread, so make sure to check back soon.
That about does it for now. Fred and Nathan should be checking in sometime tonight or tomorrow, so stay tuned.
I'm not terribly active on this site, but I ran into Fred at the beginning and end of the MAA drive. Fred was one of the last to leave the mall parking lot in Birmingham yesterday - stopping to chat with all the lookie loos that kept wandering over, long after all the other cars had left to get to their hotels for a well deserved rest.
Here's a picture of me and my 2 kids with Fred and Nathan at the end of the line. I think Fred's car has some Kryptonite under the hood.

It really was an amazing experience. All the local Mustang clubs that hosted lunch or dinner events for us - thanks! The clubs in OK and LA especially went all out to make us feel welcome.

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama !!!! Finally in a room with a Data Port to get to the internet. Well where do I start? We arrived in Birmingham with 3200 miles on the car exactly seven days later. With all of the original Mustangs from Las Vegas slowly making our way across America, we had a great showing here in Birmingham. Nathan and I enjoyed every mile, minute and moment with each other as a Father and Son. This trip gave us the time to reflect on where we have been and to focus on where we were going in life. We have learned that life is very similar to the phrase “Like a Box of Chocolates” from “FORREST GUMP”. Nathan and I have met and made new friends from all four corners of this great planet. Our Australia Friends were such a blessing to follow from Las Vegas to the Hoover Dam. We learned to greet a “real Aussie” with Gd-day versus good day. Nathan really liked visiting them and related with “Bindy” Steve Irwan’s Daughter. At the Hoover Dam we met a Father and Son from The Netherlands. “ROUDY” was his Profile Name on his Car. He and His Father drove out from California after purchasing his custom Black S197 Mustang. Very well done ride and was unique. As I Nathan was sharing with him about his adventures, the rain started in on us at the dam and it was time to get rolling again. The Hoover Day was a refreshing stop from the short drive from Las Vegas. Sam “Mustang 1” and all his staff that helped put this trip together need to be thanked again for the Great Job and attention to detail in their planning. Great Job Sam and Thank you for allowing Nathan and I to enjoy such a rare event!!!
David - You made my day for taking the time to get to know me and follow my Cancer Story. As a Fellow AFM from Colorado please keep active and lets Plan the THUNDER From COLORADO 2010 Rally for Cancer. Denver to Kansas City? Denver to Chicago? Denver to INDY !!!!!! YES !!!
Well the down loads have started and a few pics have been posted since my last post. We have an estimated 1700 pics from the last 9 days. My wife even sent me a pic on my phone to make sure I could identify her when I get back to Sterling.
We have about an hour of Video to break down into segments for you tube.
To all those visiting the site looking for your Picture/Video of you by Nathan and I. they will be broke down by days along the way.
Time for some much needed sleep again.
A Special Thank You to Cathy and Scott for your always being there when I called.. even at $)) in the morning....
Josh - What can a humble man say aout such a great friend ....
I hope Thank You my Friend will be a small expression of my graditute for what you do for AFM.
