Ford Laser Equipped Ignition System to Replace Spark Plugs
The next generation of Ford vehicles will likely come equipped with lasers. Unfortunately, these are not sci fi Stars Wars type lasers, but instead a more efficient engine ignition system. Say goodbye to the spark plug, because it has become obsolete.
Great article Josh but just wish you had told us before I bought those new feeler gauges to gap spark plugs. Wonder if I can bring them back for a refund?
Seriously, from the article it sounds like this is going to quite an improvement over todays ignition systems. Good to see Ford is again leading the way!

It sound that if the car can adapt to any fuel mixture does that mean using the cheap gas over racing fuel will make no difference?
but if we are still looking into Oil that means water powered cars are not going to happen till at least another 200 years.
We could already be running on water but cause oil companies run the world it hasn't happened. There is more water in the world then oil but since no one truly controls water its basicly free so oil would die as would the world cause every government is involved with oil so..... whatever.

Normally when there is multiple ignition points in a cumbustion chamber it is called detonation or pre ignition and is very bad for the engine. When an engine is cold one reason it runs rich is because it helps warm up the engine faster. Also the unburnt hydrocarbons and oxygen going into the cat. helps it warm up faster. I do not believe the lenses on the lasers are going to last very long inside the cumbustion chamber. Approximately 180,000,000 violent explosions per 60,000 miles. Is there lens going to have little wipers on it to help clean away the thick black carbon build up? Will I be able to buy 8 for about $30 bux?
Thanks but no thanks you keep your laser I will keep my plugs.

I agree Lasers are cool as light sabers not spark plugs. But Seriously, How much do you think it would cost to go and change them. Another question is would guys like me be able to go to a store and just pick up some laser plugs. I'm sure with a laser that powerful, people out there would do some pretty stupid stuff with them just my opinion.

The last thing that I want is for cars, or anything for that matter, to be driven by water. Water is not renewable and once it's gone, so are we and everything else on Earth. Nothing on Earth needs oil to live though.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Multiple ignition points could finally make bio fuels and diesels run as well as gasoline, with the lower production costs associated with a gas engine. Also the multiple ignition points are not pre-ignition when they are controlled. Pre-ignition is the uncontrolled ignition of the air fuel mixture.

I passed this info onto another site and someone came back and said "Won't that burn a hole thru the piston"? Don't think some have a clue anymore. How long has lazer eye surgery been around?
