It was billed as an auction of celebrity cars, but when the final gavel fell, Carroll Shelby was still the star of the collector car world. A 1965 Shelby Cobra Roadster was the top seller at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson auction which wrapped up Oct. 10, topping even the 2009 Iacocca Silver Anniversary Mustang GT. Together, the two cars drew more than US$792,000 (including the 10 per cent buyers premium). Shelby?s name was associated with two other Mustangs in the top five cars: a 1967 Shelby GT500 SE Super Snake Continuation Fastback sold for $330,000, while a 2007 Prudhomme Edition drew $302,500. And overall, Mustangs and Shelby-tagged ponies drew almost $2.7 million.
