Default Home For Good!

Hi all, Just got word of my upcoming transfer which means I'll be moving to the Collingwood area in a couple of month's. My wife and I are pretty excited about the move (originnally from North York). Just wondering about 1/4 tracks in or around that area. Which are the closest and what events don't I want to miss! I'm looking forward to going to the J&P Shootout and finnally I'll be close enough to where I'll actually be able to attend! I've always wanted to go to that! (it is still running right?) I can't wait to take the stang and cruise that beautiful area. But before I do any of that , I've got a couple of question I'd wish to ask.

Is it true photo radar is making a comeback in Ontario?
Manditory vehicle smog test, how often?
Vehicle insurance $, are private insurance companies milking the public?

If anyone can educate me on any one of my inquiries I'd sure appreciate it!

Stan

Hi There,

Yes they are trying to bring back Photo Radar, hope it does not happen! The smog testing is here now and you will likely have to test as soon as you move and then every other year until the car is 20, but do not panic something like 90% of cars are passing right now.

Insurance is HORRID, not sure what you are paying out West, but be ready, its very high here right now, We pay 1580 per year for full coverage on our old Conversion Van! The Stang is not done yet, so not sure about that...

As for Tracks, I am not real sure.. we go to Shannonville and also race a 4 banger at the local Clay track... But I am from Nova Scotia and have not been here long enough to tell you much about 1/4 tracks as we focus more on Circle Tracks.

Thanks for the reply and welcome to the site! I along with you and probably millions of other folk are hoping that that photo radar stuff doesn't come to pass. As for Insurance, Wow that's pretty expensive for your van, guess I'll have to bite the bullet so to speak and be prepared to pay a bit more than I'm use to paying here which comes as no real big suprise.
Nova Scotia eh, lived there myself in the mid 90's for a couple of years around the Annapollis Valley area, I met my wife there also. We try to visit family there at least once a year. Loved every minute I spent there and I still miss the smell of the ocean air and the incredebly friendly people.
Only race 1/4 mile myself, never tried circle or clay track, probably a lot of fun I'm sure. Thanks for the info!

I think you can race in Barrie. It's a lot closer than Shannonville. There's a pretty healthy car Scene in the area, especially in the summer (Wasaga Beach.)
I pay about $100.00 a month for insurance on my 95 GT, and I have a five star insurance rating. Don't know what that tells you.
Emissions test isn't a big deal. My exhaust is completely aftermarket, and my sensors have been messed up for years, and I passed with flying colors.
Good luck.

Hey thanks for the reply trikpony, that doesn't sound too bad for insurance and emissions. Looking forward to the move which is approaching ever so fast. This bit of good news eases some of the pressures that go along with moving. Thanks!

No problem. Maybe I'll see at the street car shoot out in July. Can't miss me. My car has a "Punisher" logo in the back window.

Where's this street car shoot-out taking place? Good chance if I'm available I'll be there!
