First and foremost, your 98 fuel rails have a fuel pressure regulator but it's welded on there. If you want an aftermarket regulator you're going to have to swap back to 96/97 fuel rails. I run the 96/97 rails with an Aeromotive #13102 fuel pressure regualtor that is boost safe (i.e. 1:1).
I don't like FMU's no matter what anyone says and they are a bandaid in my honest opinion. If you have an FMU, it will be on the passenger side and hooked up to near the fender (inside).
What you need is a good tune. I highly recommend you get that car on a wideband dyno and monitoring the a/f very closely.
Good luck. BTW, I have a 98 GT and it now has a 2000GT engine in it so I've been there, done that. I run vortech "S" trim, 42# injectors, prom 80mm MAF, NO FMU, and custom tune.
Good luck,
Tim
