Basic supercharging mistakes i want to pass on to others
First i want to say hi since i am new to this site. Here are a few bad choices i have made and learned from on supercharging my 94 Mustang GT with stock heads, intake and cam.I hope this helps out other people before the mistakes are made i have done.
1-6lb. powerdyne upgrade to a 9Lb. pulley(On my application i had seen 4.5 pounds of boost with the six pound pulley, with 9Lb. pulley see 6 to seven, you will loose some pounds on different applications so dont expect to see advertised pounds when putting that SC on.
2-Do not use 255LPH Pump with non adjustable FMU received with Kit(Powerdyne or Vortech)This big pump causes the static fuel pressure to sky rockect to unadjustable levels, even with adjustable regulator, this pump is fine without the FMU but as soon as the FMU is hooked up the pressure at idle(no boost)goes up to 60-65 PSI. I put a 110 in and everything went back to normal and the FMU works great again
3-DO NOT use 30# injectors with stock heads.(alot of people told me this but later on down the road i was planning on getting heads and intake, but for now the performance died REAL BAD making this switch)#24 pound is a choice but the #19 are giving me what i want and no detonation plus a GOOD thing to use i found and is accurate is at www.mustangworks.com/analyzer.html. This calculator is great if you know your cars horsepower and 1/4 mile times.
This information is from my experience so far with my application, the car runs great and is very reliable so far,i am no pro but a typical wrench twister on the weekend like most of us,some of the information i have listen to worked but also some have caused me some unwanted money spent.Just keep in mind that if a base level supercharger is being added dont under estimate the stock fuel and ignition parts, these have all been over done by the car manufacturer as a buffer for them.If you decide to get into heads, intake and cams listen to the guys who have these parts, because then you get into bigger injectors, fuel pumps and computer tuning, but as far as base level supercharging,go slow and dont over estimate.
Nice write-up but I would disagree about the 30# injectors. With stock heads, I think going with 30#injectors and no fmu would be a good set-up. Problem is, it's probably going to take a dyno-tune/custom chip to get things running just right on our 94-95 cars. Plus the 30# injectors give someone room to grow but in my experience, not by much. Add the heads, intake, and 9lbs of boost, the 30# injectors need an fmu to work successful.

1. Nice landing, Sir.
2. I'll buy the first round.
3. I'll take the ugly one.
Yes i agree with you when you say when using #30 injectors and stock heads you would need to throw the car on a dyno and tune a chip, this would bring the fuel curves where they should be,but this help was written for the people who are not at the level of a dyno yet and are using a base level supercharger,i also know that if any upgrades to bigger injectors are used on the 94-95 stangs you should without a doubt get a chip because these cars are much more sensitive than the previous years for fuel curves, keep in mind i have run #30 injectors on mine with the stock heads and no fmu,the car ran without any detonaton but without any chip the fuel was just way to much and perfomance suffered bad. Also, if with stock heads and #30 injectors,if you do get on a dyno and get a chip burned you can do away with the FMU,i have seen cars setup this way and there are some good articles on the web about this(but i do disagree with needing #30 pound injectors with stock heads and 4 to 7 pounds of boost). So if starting out with 4 to 7 pounds of boost you can feel comfortable with stock fuel setup, with an FMU.I have ran my car this way at the track many times without no trouble for two years,i just feel that if you want to put on a base level supercharger and keep your stock heads, intake and/or cam leave the dyno time to the guys that need the tuning, your timeslips will agree along with your wallet. Thanks for the cudos on the help article.(The more info on basic supercharging will help out when the time comes to jump up to higher levels of perfomance)
How's that Powerdyne holding up for you? When I had my BD-11A, it worked great. Never had a problem with it or my car, after my dyno tune that is. My car gave me fits after bolting on my heads and the blower install didn't help matters. My timing and air-fuel curves were so jacked up. I think I had a very weak apple in the stock programming department
The powerdyne never gave me any problems,i think these get a bad rap from alot of guys because of the belt design but for the street purpose i think it is perfect,i do think if horsepower by big numbers is what you want there are bigger and better but for what i was looking for from the get go,it is everything i expected. Sooner or later i will go after big horsepower numbers and if i do thats when i will move into the relm of intake, heads and cam and probably do away with the supercharger, after knowing the guy killercanary and going to the track with him i have seen the diifferance between supercharging and heads. But for now i am going ring out what i can with the powerdyne, let me know what you learn on your adventures with your stuff. Thanks

What do you think of using a 255 fuel pump on n/a pretty much stock engine? I was told that the fuel pump can not be too big. I have all ready bought the pump but have not installed it, thinking that down the road I will be going to a super-charger or nitruos . Right now other than exhaust, intake manifold, and ignition, the engine is a stock 88 speed dencity 5.0 H.O.
Without the non-adjustable FMU the pump works great, but if down the road you do get a supercharger you could keep the pump and if you were going to use an fmu get one like the vortech super fmu, with this i have been told you can adjust the static fuel pressure,at this time i did not want to dish the money out for this expensive peice because i feel that this is more of a band-aid for an fmu and would of not agreed with my low boost numbers,i had ran my 94 GT without the fmu and #30 pound injectors with matching maf and 255 pump which i had no problem with, except there was way to much fuel going into my engine and killing performance,i could have got a chip burned to solve this but for #6 pounds of boost and stock intake, heads and cam it would of been a waste of money for low gains in performance on my application. There are tons of opinions on this so be choosey,i have tested alot of these opinions and the guys who tell you right off the bat to ditch the FMU and go with bigger injectors, usally have head or intake work, and never went with the conservitive approtch,i am not saying there wrong,it is just over doing it with boost numbers below 7 or 8 pounds of boost(8 pounds pushing it)i have done the bigger injector route with stock pieces and it ended up spending more green than needed. So what i can say is if you have the pump, use it,it wont give you any problems. But if a supercharger is in your future and you are going to use below 7 pounds of boost and keep the stock pieces like i have, get a 155lph use the FMU,and keep the stock injectors,if heads intake and/or cam is in the works with more boost, listen to the guys who reccomend bigger injectors and chips. With mine after all this time(2 years) i still have the gaskets intacked and it runs great with the gas pedal buried.Like i said this is my knowledge on items i have tried and used on MY APPLICAION with good results on what i have.Good luck.
