This is a common misconception.
Rule of thumb: it takes energy to make energy.
A turbo works by exhaust
pressure. As a base line comparison, consider that to make 20 pounds of boost, you must have 20 pounds of exhaust pressure in your header.
Now that's a lot of back pressure. But that's how turbo's work. I always say that it's like having a potato crammed in your exhaust pipe.
It's by no means free horse power though.
A supercharger on the other hand has free flowing exhaust but has the added resistance of a belt, gears, and ball bearings.
They both are great ways to make power.
Just a Super charger has no Lag.
