Default 3.8 to 4.6 engine swap...rear end questions

First off. I am new to the forum, so what's up? I have a 2001 pony and want to do an engine swap. I will be installing a 4.6 and besides replacing the k member i read that i need to upgrade the rear end to a 8.8. Can is use my current rear end or should i invest in an 8.8. due to funds the current rear end would be better for me financially, but if i must...then i will.
