Default 2004 Mustang V6 Upgrade suggestions

I just bought my first Mustang and I am looking to put some upgrades on it to boast performance, however I do not want to do anything incredibly radical where I will end up destroying the engine overtime. Its a 2004 3.8L V6 Automatic Mustang with a cold air intake already installed and I am thinking about getting dual flowmaster exhuast and possibly a tuner however I am not sure which one. Any upgrade suggestions would be greatly apperciated! Thanks in advance.

CAI (K&N or BBK), headers (BBK shorty's), dual exhaust adapter kit, 2.5" exhaust piping and a set of Magnaflow mufflers, 65mm throttle body, upgraded differential gears from 2.73:1 (stock) to 3.27 or 3.45 gears, underdrive pulleys, and a superchip from Superchips / Home / www.superchips.com would put you over 250hp. These are just things you can do with limited automotive know-how and without having to get into the engine internals. This would be a good start for you and if you wanted to upgrade your engine internals later, all these mods will work great with whatever you want to do.

Pleae stop posting incorrect information, it's getting old having to correct your posts.

The stock gear for his 04 v6 is 3.73, not 2.73. The stock headers are pretty much shorty headers so adding those would be a huge waste of time. With the mods you listed he won't even be over 200rwhp. Stock with an auto he will put down around 160rwhp.

NYsoccerplayer- Since you posted this in the Power Adder section I'll assume that you want to turbocharge, supercharge, or add nitrous to your v6. None of these options are what you would call cheap, but they will give you a huge increase in both horsepower and torque. My suggestion to you is to do a lot of reading on this forum and others before going any further with this thread. This exact question has been asked over and over by a variety of posters, so there is no shortage of information on the subject.

The gear ratio was my mistake, 3.27 not 2.73. Bolting on a set of headers would add 10-15 HP. Plus, I estimated his power output as HP, not rwhp. Don't correct a post with incorrect info.

I have yet to see a dynograph from anyone other than a vendor claiming that shorty headers add that much power. If you can find a dynograph to prove otherwise I'd be glad to look at it.

The mods you listed are good, CAI which you have already. Dual Flows will be a nice addition along with a tuner. 3.73's and a t-lok will be a nice upgrade for your car as you'll feel a big difference in off the line performance. As for shorties, I would just stick with the stock ones as they flow pretty decent and shorties won't net you much over the stock ones anyway, if you had a fox body then it would be a different story. I'm pretty sure more will chime in. Good luck
