I was thinking the same thing for my 96. Will it set off the check engine light and does it increase HP?
Thanks
Jeff

Yes it will set off your check engine light. In order to resolve this you can get a set of mil's(malfunction indicator light eliminators) which are installed on the downstream 02 sensor wiring harness. They are made with a resistor and capacitor and fool the computer via voltage regulation into thinking there is a catalytic converter operating properly and in place. And yes they will also free up air flow and give you HP and TQ gains. Hope this helps.

i would make sure you have an extra exhaust if you are in a place that requires IM testing... also the police can pull you over for your exhust being to loud... just remember not haveing cats of any sort is not only anginst state law its against FEDERAL law!!!! but usuall if u can get past the IM tests, like up here in Seward, Alaska there are not tests so we can just run straight pipe if we wonted, but you should be ok.

good luck

you dont need to remove your cats. pypes did a comparison test between their catted and non catted systems and the diference was only like 2 horsepower.

it makes it louder but you cant really feel 2 horsepower.

in my opinion i would rather have the peace of mind that my car is legal compared to the extra two ponies

Default removing cats

I agree with the group... With the high-flo cat options out there, it's pointless to remove them- but if you choose to, you can put in the O2 sensor deletes for about $25-$50 each.
If you want a whole new exhaust system, go with headers (long tubes best, equal length shorties next, regular shorties 3rd), hi-flo catted X- or H- pipe, if you want to replace the factory cats, and whatever mufflers that you think sound best- because the all flow much better than stock (Borla, DynoMax, Mac, Pypes, or my personal favorite: the Super 40's from Flomaster, etc..).
