In general terms, superchargers fall under 2 main categories: centrifugal blowers (like the ProChargers, VorTechs, etc) that are mounted in front of the engine, and positive displacement blowers (like the 03/04 Cobra M112, KenneBell, Whipple, Saleen, or Rousch) which mount on top of the engine.
The centrifugal blowers are usually cheaper to buy than the positive displacement SC's and love high rpms. The positive displacement superchargers are more of an OE installation, cost a bit more, and love to produce torque at low rpms.
