Exclamation Supercharge my V6? What happend if i do?

OK, thought just crossed my mind about dropping the Vortech Supercharger on my 99 when I get it. Now I got a few questions for those who know how to do it.

What type of fuel does it need? Regular of Premium? If Premium will it hurt it if i still use regular?

Can it still be done with stock pistons and not forged?

If I bought Ram Air Induction can it still be done?

Will there be any cooling problems?

Will it become a gas hog then?

I was already planning on getting a SuperChip for it. So, is there anything else I need to do or be concered with?

Fuel : Use the highest grade, for the extra 4 bucks you spent you are getting better fuel that is a bit cleaner.

Internals: Internals are fine stock for about 6 psi, anything above that play at your own risk.

Ram Air: Throw it away, get CAI before but Ram Air won't do anything with a snail.

Cooling: There shouldn't be a problem if you get a kit and put it all on right. Intercooler**

Gas Hog: You will notice a drop but drive nice when you aren't racing and you will be fine. people drive around with SC and it all good.

Other stuff: Make sure to upgrade your fuel system and get the chip burned after the install.

That is about it but I will let someone who knows what they are talking about take the stand.

You will HAVE to use premium gas or you will get detonation and end up with piston a' flambe'! The Vortech kit comes with the fuel upgrades you will need and you should have no problems with cooling. The Vortech kit is a 9 psi kit but your engine should be able to handle it if the car is tuned properly. If your car is stock other than the supercharger, the chip provided by Vortech will do fine. Otherwise, you will need to get your car tuned on a dyno by a professional. The gas mileage won't be that bad and forget about the ram air.

So I shouldn't have to worry about my heads jumping off the block right?

Or do you really reccomend that I just upgrade to forged pistons first?

It will all depend on how much boost you run. If you stick to 6 or 8 lbs, then you will not have a problem. I have been running 6lbs of boost on my 95 for the last 5 years, on stock heads and internals, with no problems.

If I where you I would get performance heads, intake, forged internals, rr arms, and a windage tray/ stud girdle to prep you engine for the S/C. If you do the above first you will get larger gains from the S/C and it will be safer on your block. I take it this is your daily driver so if you blew some gaskets, or anything else you would not be happy and need to get them fixed asap.

also how much you willing to spend

See, the Vortech one drops 8 1/2 to 9 pounds of boost. Would that be safe? The Vortech website it is, but you can't always trust them.

If anyone knows of a better one that is in the safe area please tell me.

I wanting to speed around the three grand range for one but I want it to be relaiable.

Like I said before, you should be OK. Don't forget to install a boost gauge when you install that blower.

Thumbs up superchargers..

Since your thinking about running a oil feed supercharger
I recommed you install oil temp gauge and a water temp
gauge too with the boost gauge.Get a three pod'ed gauge
pod and install they will help you tons Dom.Remember with
the proper gauges you will never have to worry about engine
damage because the gauge stats would be right in front of
your face.Tuning, cooling, and fuel should be your main concern
Dom.All my friends at the track running Vortech on there V8's
said their Vortech supercharger units can last forever if you
treat your engine correctly and don't abuse the power.Since
your 99 V6 is somewhat newer I don't think you will have one
problem if you have gauges. The most acurate gauges I ever
seen were Ford Racing and Auto Meter so,I would recommed
them if you do supercharge your V6.The best of luck to you Dom.

Yea, before I even thought about installing the blower I was thinking about what guages. I know I was going to do the pillar pod guage mount with the Auto Meter Lunar Boost 30 in Hg-Vac./30 PSI Guage since I wanted to upgrade to the Lunar Mustang Instrument Cluster later.

And I might just get a two guage pillar mount and use the oil pressure guage as the other since it's a oil feed supercharger.

But can anyone point me to some good prices on the Vortech Supercharger? CJPonyParts.com has it price for $3.200.00 while Vortech has it priced for $3,800.00.
