Default Question about SC without the Intercooler?

I am thinking about having a Procharger installed without an intercooler for now. Can I get everyone’s take on this decision please? Maybe pros and cons, something I might be over looking by going this way? Would end up keeping the boost to 8 psi so I wouldn't have to do internal mods as well.

doesn't the procharger come with an intercooler? why not get it installed? i would imagine that it only comes with plumbing setup for intercooler use.

the only non intercooled procharger kits i know of are for the 5.0s.

Quick,

I called Procharger a few days ago and they told me I didn't have to have one. Someone may not have known what they were talking aboutthough. Hummm.. SC aren't my thing either.

you don't have to have an intercooler, but its a nice touch. to the best of my knowledge all of their 4.6 kits come with intercoolers.

You can run more boost with an intercooler. With the procharger kits you have a increased chance of detonating if you don't have the intercooler. That's why their superchargers are so great, because they are intercooled. They cool the incoming charge by about 80*-100* F That's makes a huge difference. I don't have the time to go into this right now... I feel like crap... Take the time, spend the money, and do it right.

Thanks guys, going to go do my homework on all of it, I am going to go ahead and go with the intercooler as well. Knock it all out at the same time.

Thanks again

Good choice, the intercooler is worth it. Its better to be safe than sorry.

talk to anderson ford motorsports................they took the i/c off and made 40 more horse with a p1sc. belive what you want but be sure and read all the horror stories of leaking p1sc and bad customer svc from ATI (procharger) search the internet and and see for yourself. and just remember a air to air i/c has no effect when your sitting still in traffic and stop and go traffic. there's a reason race cars use air to water(filled with ice) because it cools the charge while sitting still. and also how fast do you have to be moving to cool the air????? air to air i/c = a false sense of security.

I thought an intercooler allowed you to run more timing but the side effect is it would impede boost.

I'm sorry, you are right... Good call :thumbsup ... That's why you run a lil more boost at the S/C to make up for the intercooler. It allows you to run more timing on a lower octane fuel. The more timing you can run (to a certain degree), the more power you will make. That's what I've read anyways.

Though it's a different engine, a guy on Stangnet is running a very strong bolt-on 302 with a non-ic P1SC. He had to fabricate a few things in the kit to make it work but he makes more power than some of the ic guys. Not scientific or fact by any means but just an observation. I run a non-ic set-up with no problems but if you can afford the ic, why not?
