Default Timing a small block for nitrous

I'm putting together my vintage Boss motor and was looking to add the giggle gas to it. How should I time the cam timing set. ie, straight up advance two degrees, retard two, etc.? It'll be a 100 or 150 shot.

I would just buy the 6AL MSD box and get the chip of about 2 deg per 100 shot and be done.

whay cam did you install? is it a nitrous cam or other? if its not then set it up with a degree wheel per the specs. if you dont have a retard box pull 4 degrees out of the total advance. you should be good. when i set up my roller cam i went with 4 degrees advace spraying 275 shot.good luck!

This question is more difficult to answer then you might think... It depends on compression ratio, fuel used, and ignition timing. The true way to make sure it's safe is to put it on the dyno and then run a Ignition box like the MSD digital 6 box or their new box, the Programmable 6AL-2... Then tune it

To give you a blanket statement, NOS will tell you to retard somewhere between 4-6*. I would also consider getting a step colder spark plug copper only!!! No platinum!!!

what did on my 95 when i had just nitrous was install a 6-plus box has a retard for nitrous and like they said start small work your way up better to have extra timing pulled out than not because too much timing means head gasket r worse but i have alway had good luck with nitrous a 150 kit all day on cast motor and i would put cam timing straight up and pull timing out for nitrous that way your always using most of your combo dont want to run around with timing set for nitrous if you not using it want make peak power that why i suggest getting box to retard when activated
