Default timing for nitrous

I am wanting to add a 100 dry shot to my car but I don't know what to do with the timing ? And do I need to adjust the timing every time I use the nitrous or will the car run fine adjusted for nitrous? The car is mostly street sees the track about 1 every two weeks and the nitrous won't be used on the street very much

Most 5.0L respond well to about 13-14 degrees of timing normally aspirated so from lots of personal experience I would recommend about 9-10 with a 100 shot with your fuel pressure adjusted close to 50 psi (with vaccuum disconnected)if your using 19lb injectors and your Nitrous system is wet. Use a colder range spark plug gapped to .035 and upgrade your fuel pump with at least a 155 lph. It also wouldn't hurt putting in a Crane or MSD ignition box as well. With Nitrous fuel and spark is Essential!
I'm not a big fan of the dry kits if you haven't upgraded to at least 24lb injectors, the stockers will be maxed out with that kit.

in total agreement with the above....

A good, general rule of thumb is to start with the factory recommended heat range. For every 75 to 100 hp you add to your engine, you may go to the next colder step. the difference from one full heat range to the next is the ability to remove 70 degrees C to 100 degrees C from the combustion chamber.

As a general rule of thumb, 1 degree retard for every 25 HP is common.

EFI engines may not need an adjustment to the timing up to a 100hp as the ECU may automatically compensate for any minor adjustment / requirements that are needed.

For carbureted cars general guidelines below may be followed:

Up to 50 HP use standard timing
50 to 100 HP retard by 2 degrees
100 to 150 HP retard by 4 degrees
150 to 200 HP retard by 6 degrees
250 HP and up retard by 8 degrees

I agree Reggie but I wouldn't run 13 degrees of timing with a 100HP shot, that's too much. With it set at 10 the car will run quicker and have a higher trap speed!

When I was running N2O I would run 11* with a 100 shot with 1 step colder plugs. I would start low and slowly work your way up to see what works best for you but take it slow 1* at a time and if you hear detonation get out of it.
