Default Boost timing retard adjustment question

I just got my 94 Cobra and it came with the MSD6AL with the boost timing retard adjustment.

I'm not sure, but I think that I can hear valve noise when accelerating. Should I try adjusting the timing retard? If so, how much?

As you can tell, I'm not familiar with this system.

2. 95 GT Vert - Red, 3.55's, 95 Cobra R 17X9s, FMS Ceramic Shorties, BBK 65mm TB, GMS Mass Air, BBK U/D Pulleys, Flowmaster Force II, Magnaflow H-Pipe w/cats, K&N, Air Silencer removed, 180 Degree Thermostat.

Turn it to 3 and adjust down from there.

Is that what your running yours at? I have mine scaled back to 1 right now. Does this affect the performance?

What you think is valve noise could be detonation! How much boost are you seeing one the gauge, fuel pressue, timing etc???
