Exclamation Turbo vs. Supercharger on Foxes

I noticed that a lot of Fox body owners put turbos on there cars. me personaly i would go with a supercharger to get that raw instant power. For those of you who dont know the difference between the two, a Super charger runs of your belts taking power away from then engine to run but in return gives you a lot more and the power it always there. On the other hand you have a turbo which runs of of your exhaust, it doesnt take any power away but it takes time to build boost and only works in a certain RPM range depending on what you set it to. So when you shift and your RPMS drop you lose your power until it spins back up (thats why you hear that nice blow of valve dump, with that dump goes your boost). Now that everyone knows the differance why on a mustang would you run a turbo. Me personally on a muscle car i want the power there all the time. In my mind my car mustang is more for quick acceleration, not top end speed. I might have the common misconception but i think muscle cars should have supercharcers and leave the turbos for the turners. what does everyone else think?

It comes down to personal preference. Some like the supercharger, which is also easier to install due to it being a kit with less parts to install. A turbo actually can make more power but it's overall heavier, they require different headers, more piping, and then if you size them wrong you can get boost lag. But if done right, a turbo doesn't have excessive lag like the early turboed cars had.

This info is very misleading, although you got the basic concept down, as far as power production you couldn't be more wrong. Turbos when sized properly make WAY more torque than a supercharger with no lag. It's all about sizing it properly to your application, if a supercharger didn't go by those characteristics as well you'd see a bunch of guys running around with YSI and F3R's on their street rides which even with their huge size will not produce power in the lower RPM range nearly as well as a much smaller S-Trim would. Hence picking the proper size for your application. Turbos are generally more expensive due to the extra parts and install time over a supercharger but ultimatley make more power. So like eagle said it's all about preference as supercharged cars make great power and are easier to install but as far as power production are outgunned in the long run.

Wow, lots of wrong info in the first post. I have had both a turbo car and a S/C car the S/C car now has the turbo on it. I would never go back . Trust me I was DIE HARD S/C 2 years ago.then for some reason I got a turbo. My turbo car is much faster then the old S/C set up and makes boost and more of it much sooner the the old S/C set up. I can turn the boost up or I can turn it down and I don't have to get out of the seat to do it. I run much less gear with the turbo (331vs373) that's a lot with a C4 and much less cam and the car is much quieter then the S/C car ever was. not to mention the fuel mileage is also much better. and it makes more power. have you ever rode in a turbo 5.0? or for that matter any gas powered turbo V8 other then maybe a old T/A? But in some way I guess your right the muscle car feel may not be as strong with the turbo but for what I am into just plain bad ass fast real street cars it is just what I am looking for. Like said before to each there own.

I have a S/C. As in your first post you are correct in the fact that the S/C is parasitic and the turbo is "Free Power". With the new turbo's there is little to no turbo lag. Of course setup is EVERYTHING. I also understand that the turbo setups are easier to tune...

Just my 2¢

Our turbo has been much harder to tune then the S/C due to the fact that it comes on boost so much sooner and there is no real set rpm that it comes up on boost. I did just switch over to a GM map sensor to help with the tuning of it. and that seems to help some for street driving
