Well, I learned something today in an indirect way! I looked up NOS on Wikipedia, and found that "Nitrous Oxide Systems" was a division of Holley, and that Holley started in 1896 in Bradford, PA, which is about an hour from my hometown. It's also the place where they make Zippo lighters!

NOS is the name of a company, just like Trick Flow, Edlebrock or Holley.
The right term would be "Nitrous Oxide".
LoL
I was actually talking to my friend the other day and I said "... I'm also going to get a 100 shot of NOS...". Right when I said "NOS" I stopped and looked at him and said "Did I really just call it NOS?!"
I normally call it "goofy gas"!
It's the only thing I look forward to at the dentist office!

Thats gonna be a tough habit to break people of.
Im pretty sure everyone says NOS.
With all the slang flying around its more of an abreviation.
BUT luckily alot of mustang guys i talk to say
"yes its got alittle nitrous in it"
and i say "oh? just a little bit?"
and theyre like "yeaa...just alittle bit"
but I understand your frustration.
Somebody get this man a Dr.Pepper.

Agree!
Heck, even if the bottle is a Nitrous Oxide System bottle, I still call it nitrous. I hate the word "NOS". Partly because it sounds weird, but mostly because of Vin Diesel.
The part of a weapon that holds the ammunition is technically a "magazine", but the majority of people call it a "clip". I know exactly what they're talking about & when people say NOS (as I have also done), I know exactly what they're referring to. I just don't see what's to be gained by getting "uptight" about the verbage used.
It's kind of like the terms "Xerox" & "weedeater".
