Default 1989 Mustang 5.0, supercharger questions

hello, i just purchased 1989 supercharged 5.0 my first supercharged car! car runs fast but, seems to be running rich. the car was bought from a women who was selling cause son passed away so she knows very little about car. there is no msd box on car has msd distributor and coil but no box. could this be the problem not enough spark to burn fuel??? im motor stupid so be nice!!!! lol.car runs better as warms up but seems to be loading up and a gas smell as running rich? any help would be appreciated. thanks

I would defently get a box, and since its boosted check the gap on the plugs. .035 should be good. JMO

welcome in AFM,
Check your bypass valve; you may have an air leakage.

Regarding the MSD, you should have MSD ignition retarded unit, the previous owner might not have an MSD ignition retarded unit so he put the advanced less than 10 degrees to avoid detonation,

You could really use the MSD box, along with a Boost Timing Master. That way it'll adjust the timing in accordance to the level of boost, so you don't get the dreaded detonation demon. With that boost pressure, you need extra power to ensure the plug light rather than get blown out.

i just installed msd box and car drives much better doesnt seem to be running as rich. does anybody know what timing should be set at? car is running good but just want to check timing. any thing else i should check? thanks again john

you really need to find more out about the car or tell us more. What injector is being used ? how much boost? what are you tuning with or are you. does it have a chip in it? what heads and cam? are you running a fmu? what mass air. there is nothing wrong with being a bit rich, rich is safe on a FI car.
