Default MPG cost of Delete Plates?

Greetings,
I am not so much interested in this MOD as I live in a state which will surely bust me for removing them come inspection time. There is a lot of talk about removing them to gain horse power. So I have studied them as to why they are installed in the first place. While they will restrict the flow under WOT conditions a little, they seem to have a bennifit when operating the car at low power levels. You know, loafing down the road at 45mph in 5th. From what I have read of the theory of operation for charge motion plates (CMP) they increase combustion efficiency during those conditions and so most likely help with increasing MPG. I am curious though. For those who have removed the CMP device, was there a hit to your MPG or low RPM performance?
