Default InterCooler Differences?

It was suggested that i may want to add an intercooler to my system. (Vortec Super)
My question is, Is there a Difference between the Turbo Intercoolers and the Supercharger Intercoolers?

They seem to look the same. The only thing i have noticed is the Inlet and Outlet tube sizes "Seem" smaller on the turbo ones.

nope they all serve the same purpose. a turbo intercooler would work fine. you just have to make sure you can fit it and work all the piping. there are two types of intercoolers though. air to air and air to water.

Next summer looking to go with:
Bilstien shocks + struts, Lowering springs (brand still TBD (any suggestions?)), MM CC plates, front + rear sway bars, subframes, and upper and lower control arms.
Time to make the pony ride some rails

i just remembered that vortech ususally uses air to water intercoolers and has them mounted right after the head unit itself.

most air to air intercoolers are mounted in the front bumper so in order for that to work you would have to rotate the head unit around or buy or fabricate some piping kit to get the supercharger to get the air to the intercooler.

or you could always just get one of vortech's air to water intercoolers and have no issues with fitment or installation whatsover.

Thanks,
The Vortec ones are just a LITTLE expencive.
That was the main reason for asking.

I need to do a little more reading. There are piping kits available, but weather they would work with my system or not, i need to still find out.

Mounting up front on a fox body shouldnt be a problem, theres alot of room up there, its just the piping issue.

Its still in the planning stages, i am just now getting near to the point wher i can drive it again, let alone start tearing apart the engine compartment now. Maybe when i get to where i replace the front bumper, it need to be fixed or replaced anyway.

I have seen the Vortec ones, mounted on top, I wonder if anyone in the forum has a pic of the air to air mounted up front on their Fox body?

I'm pretty schooled on this subject, let me help you out..
For your Vortech you wanna go with a front bumper mount
Air to Air Intercooler, the dimensions you'll want is 31X12X3 or for High Boost applications a 3.5 or 4 inch core..
Some popular affordable ones that perform well are Treadstone,
Godspeed and CX Racing. You'll want a bar and plate design.

I'd get that Vortec specific intercooler, sometimes you can score a deal on Ebay

The Vortech Power cooler is OK and Yes sometimes you see them for reasonable prices BUT I can't see paying $1300 retail for it??
You could do an Air to Air with piping and couplers for less than $500, under $300 in some cases..

The Paxton air-air cooler is much better and supports a lot more growth power-wise. My cooler is good for 300 rwhp more (900) than the Vortech air-water (600).

Well the reason I suggest the Vortech is that it is engineered for his application, no use reinventing the wheel, how many times have you spent more money and time trying to adapt something in an effort to save money? and then come to find out it is less than what you thought or doesn't work at all? Always better to spend a little more upfront and "do it right" IMO/experience.

The Paxton is a direct fit for a Vortech since they're the same company.
