Question Advice on stang with a Incon Turbo

Ok, I have a 1992 lx coupe with a bunch of simple mods listed below... I have decided to not go with a supercharger and to get an Incon turbo system if I can get a hold on one My question is what should I do to get my car ready for the turbo system. I had a talk with Tom from Incon today and he gave me a bunch of ideas like

Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads with a Trick Flow intake ....
As for the Intake he mentioned to get a mid-length intake ....
36 - 42 lb fuel injectors ....
MSD Ignition ....
get rid of my stock T5 and upgrade to tremec ....
get rid of flowsmasters and get a less chamber muffler like
Dynmax Super turbo or Ultra flow's ....

My big question is since the turbo is going to be $4500.00, do I have to do all of this .. ?Here is a list of my Mods

Thanks for your input

If you're going to run heads and intake, plan on at least a main girdle if not a stronger block...you WILL be in block splitting territory hp-wise.

If you keep boost down around 8lbs and understand everything is stock on the engine, in other words don't run it at full boost every time you drive it, you should be fine until you can do the mods.

I ran mine stock for a little over a year before popping the head gasket

Nic is correct. This kit will put you in the block splitting range. I would put the stud girdle at the top of the list. Next to go would be the Flowmasters, Magnaflow is another good straight thru muffler.

WRAP YOUR CLUTCH CABLE AND SPEEDO CABLE with a good heat shielding material. You will melt them if you don't

Get rid of the chip and the 160 stat. run a good High Performance Robert Shaw or Mr Gasket 195 stat. Invest in a good after market radiator

I would be more than glad to answer any question you will have. And you will have questions. I installed mine myself. It is not that bad. Just take your time.

How was Tom? I think I'll give him a call Friday.

I think the super turbos are still chambered mufflers.... I would go with the ultraflos. Thats what I have and love them.

Tony:

You stated: "I ran mine stock for a little over a year before popping the head gasket"

How often did you run full boost? at the track?

thanks.

Let me say sorry for the late reply first!

It would be easier to tell you how often I was NOT at full boost

At the track I have about 8-10 runs in at full boost in 100deg weather. Thats where I probably popped the gasket.

Thanx Tony. It was a "dead" thread as nobody had posted for a few months. I appreciate your reply.

I'm going to go with an Incon TT setup. I'm going to build a 302 from scratch, but want to experience the Incon turbos before the engine is done.

The stock original engine in my car has 30,000 miles. I'm curious of your opinion regarding how much abuse it can take from the Incon.

A 5.0 is pretty tough. If you stay down around 8-10lbs boost, and remember it is stock, you'll be ok. Any more then that you will need at least a stud gurdle. The stock head gasket and bolts will probably let lose before anything else.

If I can just keep my lead-footed wife away from the car...

Did you run the 12.4 quarter totally stock? (w/ slicks I assume) If so, that is amazing.

Also, is your LX running yet? Very impressive Maximum Motorsport rear setup pictures! I'd love to read what you've done to your car.

Again, thanks for your posts Tony.

Craig,

Yep, stock 5.0. We found out it had a blown head gasket at the time we ran the 12.40. Yes with 26 x 8.5 slicks, stock suspension. It should have been in the 11's.

She is not running yet I hope soon! It's killing me seeing her sit in the garage on stands.

Stay tuned, we will have a write up on her in project cars soon

11's??!!

That's around 400hp...on a stock 5.0

Thanks for your posts Tony. I will be looking forward to the write-up. Hopefully, I can get my hands on an Incon before the tracks close here in Chicago.

Engine/suspension rebuild this winter...next summer=fun

I'm running my Incon 800tti twins on a stock 5.0. Stock everything motorwise except for fuel and ignition. Right off the bat it pulled 10psi and I'm leaving it there. There's no detonation so I think it will be fine. I am going to get a set of slicks and take it to the drags with the hopes of breaking into the 11's.

I plan on doing very similar mods to what you listed, but later on as I am broke after buying this setup and getting it all installed and running.

I plan to build a sportsman 331 later with the full setup, intake, heads, cam, forged rotating assebly, etc. Plus I expect the tranny to eat itself before long, but it's fine now. Probably to go a viper spec t56 or a built aode/4r70w.

Go for it dude, you'll love it. I saw a post on the incon mailing list of a guy selling a fox body kit for $3500 obo and it was a pretty trick kit.
