Default Running Hot after Vortech SQ-Trim

I've been having cooling issues about a month after i had a 8 lb. Vortech SQ-Trim installed. I presently have a FMS Aluminum radiator, Edlebrock Water Pump, 180 degree balanced thermostat & slim design electric fan because of clearance. I just recently flushed the radiator and put a clean 50/50 mix of coolant and a bottle of Redline Water Wetter.

The overheating problem, at first, was because i had popped a gasket. But, after having a head gasket change and the cylinder heads cleaned up, i'm still running hot but not as much as when the head gaskets first popped.

When driving in residential areas, my temperature guage (stock) goes as high as 3/4 before the redline. On the freeway, the temperature is at 1/2. I've been told that the stock temperature guage always be at around half.

What more can i do to bring down the temperature? Would a 160 degree thermostat resolve this without sacrificing anything? Problem with the water pump? Electric fan too weak?

It was suggested that my fan was too weak and i should go with a 2 fan dual-design type. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks.

I second the motion on being the fan.....since you switched ( i guess you switched) to a thinner fan....the cfms probably went down too. I don't know how it is for mustangs....but I know my truck needs at least 2800 cfm of flow to keep her cool when still. I would say your car needs somewhere around 2000-2500 to keep it cool. Check out summit and see what they got.

Edit.....Also, you have a decent amount of HP over stock now....so even if the fan you have now is ok for a stock mustang, your car is pushing more HP so it needs more cooling.

do you have the stock pulley on the water pump? If you have an aftermarket pulley it might not be turning the water pump fast enough to keep things cool.

And get an accurate gauge, stock one just SUCKS.

Try a 160° besides checking that fan.

I say get a guage first, then worry later.
