Default Turbo / Header Question

I'm toying with the idea of putting twin turbo on my car...
What i'm wondering is how far can you place the turbo from the head before you loose effectiveness? i would have to mount the turbos back by the fire wall kinda down and under..
Then i also have the ground clearnce issue... not sure how big a t3-t4 is...
should i just scrap this idea? or do you think its doable?

Completely doable, the easiest is to mount them where battery and filter box are. That way you have still some room to route the rest of the piping.

Twin turbos are harder to setup, theres more piping involved, consider doing a single T setup. Theres also the INTERCOOLER location.

You can do a "mockup" install using cheap PVC pipe, that will help you when you finally build all the piping. Buy pre-bent pipe, it is the easiest way to do it. Then you solder it all together and finally have it coated , not 100% needed but prefered, you want the heat to stay in the pipe and not in the engine bay.

Piping diameter is the more important factor to get the most out of the turbo(s). You want the air to move as fast as possible with few restrictions. The bends should also be smooth, else you will create lots of turbulence.

BTW... twin setups are a bit more tricky in another area, since you have 2 into 1 pipes going into the intake, you might need either a DUAL MAF setup (before both Turboss) or a BLOW THROUGH maf (before the intake), very important. a regular MAF after the turbos will most likely get pegged (voltage out of range). And mounting TWIN mafs has its little problems. Theres an article around about this.

On the single twin setup you can mount the maf before the turbo, no problems here.

i was hopein i could do the down and under deal..

My car is a 67 coupe with 88GT Speed Density 5.0 but i'm gonna vert it to Mass air....

You can do the "down and under" with twin T3s which are small, the main problem would be the piping to the intake, you have to be sure theres enough space in there.

I bet there is, 67s have tons of space to spare

You might need to route the intake piping through the fenderwells, that will likely work and will make it look "stealthier"

For what this member wants for the setup you could trash those headers...

Anybody know how much a t-3 weights? can i just mount that to a mid length header? or will i need to fab some brakets to the motor?

If it will fit a 94-95, it will fit a '67. You've tons of room comared to them.

I'm not saying the plumbing would not need redone, but the price is right to be sure....

You want to mount the turbos as close to the heads as possible. Are your headers long or short tube? Short tube you could flip over and forward then fab a mount to the ends. Long tube are to long. You will lose to much heat and then volocity.
