Just about the worst purchase experience of my life.
I purchased Series IV supercharger kit for a 2003 GT convertible from,
WWW.HANEYMOTORSPORT.COM.
When I received it, I noted the blowers’ packing container was soaked with oil. Haney said that was how they received it; they just sent it on to me without as much as a second thought. The installation document was soaked with oil and unreadable. I contacted Saleen, they just no when I asked for a fresh copy.
Not only would they not give me a fresh copy of the instructions, they also refused to even tell me what oil was needed to replenish the oil that leaked out of the supercharger. I had to contact Whipple directly. BTW it requires a bit more than 6 ounces of a 100% 5-50 synthetic oil. Saleen did not even give me good information about the recommended supercharger oil change interval; Saleen said 100,000 miles while Whipple indicates 12,000 miles.
The smaller container was very obviously opened and then repacked. Haney said that was how they received it; again they just sent it on to me without question. I also received a third container with a spare belt and the instrument cluster for boost and intake air temperature. They did not include the sending units, template for installing the instrument housing or any other documentation. Can you guess what Haney said, ‘that’s how we received it’, so they just send it on…
I made repeated calls to Saleen and Haney for a new instruction manual. Saleen just stopped returning my calls. Haney kept telling me that I needed to speak to Saleen. Overall, Haney was useless.
After a week of this crap I took my car and the supercharger parts to a Ford SVT / Saleen dealership,
WWW.SARATFORD.COM. Sarat Ford accepted the job and went to work on it the next work day.
Later that morning, I got a call from Sarat Ford to let me know that there were quite a few parts missing from the smaller container. Nearly all the intercooler items were missing. They spent hours on the phone with Saleen over the course of the next 4 weeks trying to get the parts.
Saleen would say that they would send the parts, days would pass, nothing showed up, followed by another call to Saleen… it was like Saleen was on beyond stupid or just flat out dishonest. Saleen would ship some parts but not all. Then the Sarat would have to start the entire process all over again.
Well eventually all the parts were all delivered to Sarat and installed. Then of course the stock Mustang GT hood would not close. I had asked Saleen during several per-purchase phone calls about hood clearance problems. Guess what they told me; yup you guessed it, “no problem.”
I picked up the car the day after Christmas and drove it home with hood held closed by the safety latch. Having spent a bit more than $1000 for the excellent work done by Sarat, I was a little tapped out and want to make sure what my options are for a replacement hood. I can assure you it will not be a Saleen product.
This morning my car it was towed out on a flatbed back to Sarat Ford with a seized supercharger.
