...Saw a Two Guys Garage episode where a Camero LS1 wa treated to a rear mount turbo!
As stated in another thread I've about given up on the A Trim I have. Entirely possibe but I do not have the room in my Ranger the Mustang does.
I was considering a 347, but there is nothing wrong with my 5.0 now.
THEN I saw the rear mount turbo.....well that just might be the way to go! The Ranger has NOTHING behind the rearend to the bumper except exhaust pipes.
Other than building a 2 into one 'Y' for a single or reducers for dual turbos, I see not real problems with the install. Lots of room under there!
The fuel requirements are the same for a turbo V. super taking into account the different fuel maps, but the hardware is nearly identical and I have all that.
My block is stock, so I'm wanting to stay well below 500HP. Probably about 6PSI. Plumbing is no problem. I can design that myself and surely a shop is in the St. Louis area that does mandrel bends can fabricate what is required.
OK, what should I look out for a far as pitfalls?
The above LS1 installation claims a .05 second time to boost so if the turbo spools fast enough lag should not be evident. Oil return would require a scavenging pump because of the length it travels. No intercooler needed. No excess heat under the hood.
What's stopping me?
Any suggestions on type of turbo or what I should look for when buying?
