Default Chip Question

Hey folks, I've got a couple questions that aren't getting answered in the SVT forum so I figure I'll ask here.

I have a 2003 Cobra, and I was wanting to look into possible power mods for it. But there's a slight problem. I paid for an extended five year warranty from Ford, and the sales guy basically told me during the sale that messing with the computer or adding a different pulley was a no-no that would void the warranty.

Well, I know that plenty of other people mod THEIR Cobras, and you can't tell me they don't give a damn about their warranties, so what gives?

Is there a chip out there that will fool the dealer's mechanics into thinking your car is stock when it's not? I'm not wanting to get crazy, I've seen pulleys that give about twenty five or thirty more horses, and some that give more.

What are my options for more power here?

You can get a Diablo Predator, this is an "external" handheld tuner and you can always remove it for service, same with the pulley, just get a puller.

I would also try to reset the computer a few days before you take it in to erase any electronic evidence stored in the computer. Then drive it a day or two in stock configuration to generate some "acceptable data" in the computer memory.

Maybe someone can suggest a better way to reset the computer than just disconnecting the battery over night ???

Rob's got a good suggestion. A Predator along with SCT are flash tuners. You plug into the OBD II port and download a tune then unplug it. When you need to go to the dealer you simply plug it back in and download the stock tune and unplug it. No chip hanging out on the service port of the CPU.

I have the SCT for my Lightning, it's great!

You have to be carefull about clearing or resetting the CPU. It will stay in memory for some time and could be caught by the dealer

The SCT X-Calibur flash tuner will do the trick. It saves the "stock" program for download before going to the dealer while you download the custom program.
