I'm looking for a Kenne Bell twin screw 1.7 and I'm having a hard time finding dealers around locally or on the internet. My questions is, Does anybody know of companies that carry this particular S/C or Do I just bypass shopping for prices and get one through KB?
Also, I've read all that I can about this S/C but,If anybody has first hand info about this blower they would like to share I would appreciate it.I would like some real world insight and not just what I read on random web sights.
Thanks for the help :thumbsup
BTW I have a 2002gt auto with minimal mods, I've had boost on mind since before I bought it

I have a KB 2.2 on my Lightning. I love it! They do like to be spun-up. We ran the boost up to 14psi then put a conservative tune on it. Off the line it goes to 10psi and builds to 14psi.
If the KB 1.7 is anything like the 2.2, you will have a blast with it! I tried to buy from KB direct but it was to long of a waiting list. I bought from Swanson’s and had it 4 weeks before KB could get it to me and the price was better.
Hotwheels, I would like to check all options before buying directly from them.....buying from the manufacturer is not always the best price/service. Thanks for the reply
LX, I appreciate you sharing your experience with KB. I'm probably only going to run 6-7psi at first. Is there any kind of maintainence issues you have experienced? If you installed yourself, was it difficult? I can't afford to be walking into a problem
This car is my baby and I'm cautious about hurting it, I don't want to blow it up or wear it down prematurly. I just want to give it a little kick in the a$$.
Thanks to all replies and input.

you could run up to 12psi with no problems to your baby.
The KB has not been on long, but there have been no problems. I did install it myself with no hassles. A Lightning already has a blower, so mine was more of an upgrade.
The 2.2 KB does have a maintenance schedule. You have to change the oil in the gear case after so many miles. I would imagine the 1.7 is the same way. Oh, the 2.2 has a dip-stick to check oil level too.

Changing the oil doesn't bother me, in fact, I really like that it is self lubricated. How long ago/ how many miles have you put on the KB.
I heard something about a break in period I heard anywhere from 500 to 3000 miles. I'm assuming if there is any kind of break in period it would be no longer than 500 to 1000 like a new motor. Than again since I wouldn't be pushing high amounts of boost at first anyway would there even be a break in period.

Doesn't the lightning have stronger internals than a mustang GT since it came factory supercharged. I put a tranny cooler on mine as a precaution so I wouldn't think it would hurt.

I think the internals on the lighting are stronger, at least I hope they are... LX said he was running 14psi!!
I'm kinda thinking the tranny cooler would be a requirement. Thanks for the input. I'm trying to figure aound what I'm lookin at for a total. I want to do it all at the same time

The Lightning has an automatic with a large factory cooler. I would put a cooler on your trans. You will be asking the trans to work a little harder, with that comes heat. Look into a valve body kit too. You would want to firm up the shifts and make them quicker.
The Lightning is a little stronger with its forged pistons and steel crank, but the rods suck! They have powder metal rods. They do ok until you get into the 500-550 hp range. Mine is in that range. I’m hoping for the best until I can get into the engine.

You are wrong. He has an 02 gt. These bottom ends will only hold about 9psi with the intercooled kit. I have seen several 4.6 with KB's that try to put out to much and bend or break rods. The safest bet is to get the 6psi non intercooled kit and no more than 9psi intercooled kit with stock bottom end.
What's the lowest HP you can run the Blowzilla 2.2L at? I'm thinking I'd prefer that to the 1.7L as I want to be able to upgrade higher at some point and I know they aren't straight upgrades but I'd rather spread the cost over months and years instead of having to upgrade my engine, drivetrain, and add the blower all at once. Is is possible to limit the 2.2 to the point u can keep the stock internals for a few months?

I am not sure on the 4.6 kits but on the kits for my year you can. You might get an answer on here but I would go to http://www.modularfords.com/forums/index.php. This would be the site for any KB questions you might have. They are based on mod motor cars and there is a forum on KB's that one of KB's own (Ken) answeres questions on there.
