Default supercharger or turbo application, which would be the one for me?

in regards to superchargers and/or turbo's which would be the best for me following this type of criteria?

2001 auto
driven only spring/summer/fall (no winters)
would like not not have to do anything else to the engine itself ( no further upgrades if at all possible)
decent power
somewhat quiet ( i have heard that some whine really loud)
price range.. let's say 3k or there abouts.

any sugestions?

Either one would do.

The turbo would probably be the most quite of the two.

The supercharger would be cheaper.

But remember that $3,000 is about the entry point to getting supercharged. You would still need to have some one install and tune it (which is an additional cost) unless you can do the work yourself.

somebody would definatley be doing the install for me..
would my diablo programmer be able to help with the tune for it?

i dont need anything really fast, so a basic quiet one will do.
just something to help me run with the gto's and newer mustangs

Look into a Vortech V2-SQ trim. Pro-Charger seems to be the darling of the moment but for your needs a tried and true Vortech would suffice.

I dont know if your diablo will be able to help you with the tune. Better to leave that to a pro.

Im sure some of our boosted members here can give you a little more info.

Even though more complicated, your better off spending the extra money and going Turbo. Turbos provide more HP & TRQ at the same boost levels as a Supercharger and turbos (can) spool up faster, depends on the turbo's A/R and size. http://www.jmsproductsinc.com/ has a sleeper turbo kit for $4800, and the best thing about a tubo is that you can get a Boost controller and juice it up (a little more complicated than just turning up the boost. But on the other hand can you do that with a Super? not unless you go under the hood and change pulleys!!! Example with a turbo you can get a 4.3psi spring(for the wastegate) and get a boost controller at first have the controller all the way down for 4.3lbs of boost, when you take it to the track you can pump up the boost to 8-9psi (still safe on stock internals).

But no matter which one you get you'll have to upgrade the fuel system and i would recomend a Blow-through MAF. So make sure you account for those costs while shopping for a Super/Turbocharger

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more.
Peace Out
"Drew"

Make sure you check out the tech articles on forced induction. Best advice: Do Your Homework!

repost.....from another thread.

Here's a book you might be interested in:

I checked it out from the library and it did a lot to explain how it all works. It even uses the Ford 5.0 as a model. BONUS!
