Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and looking for a little advice on performance chips. I have a 95' GT no modifing done to engine. I was thinking about getting a chip for it. Are they worth the money? which one gives you the best bang for your buck. I don't really want to go and spend the money without a little advice. thank you for your time.
If your car is anywhere near stock, you would be wasting your time and money buying a chip. The only thing that chip is going to do to make power is advance your ignition timing, which you can do yourself in about 15 minutes. A chip could change a number of parameters of which are specifically set to your combination of parts at that time. So when you go to start modifying your engine, your chip is useless untill you have it reburned for the new components you've installed. A chip on a bone stock motor has been tested and dynoed a hundred times. You might gain 10 hp, 90% of which comes from advancing the timing. Get where you want to be with engine as far as mods go, when the combo will not be changing, then get the chip. If you do a decent amount of mods enough to greatly change the engines original combo and output, the chip would be worth it and make a lot more power.

I agree totally with you. I had a chip burned for me from jmschip.com. well worth it for the money. around 300 bucks but I noticed a huge difference. also, I wouldn't bother with it on a stock motor. but definately, if you're motor was modded, don't waste your time with a store bought chip. try jms (johnson motor sports in irvington alabama)
