I have a V6 mustang and I am a racing freak! I want a v8, I have wanted one forever, but i am only 16 and cannot handle that kind of insurance. So i have a 2000 V6 with 190 horsepower stock. I got an estimate today for putting a turbo in my car for $3500. He said it will add up to 100 horses. He told me i could smoke the gt. I want feedack on any of the four topics.
1.)Can a turbo add 100 horses?
2.)Is $3500 a good price?
3.)Can i beat the gt with the turbo!?
4.)Does anyone have a turbo now, and how is it working out?
1)it is possible to add that much, but it depends on the combo you run....
2)$3500 is about average for a turbo kit.. some a lil more, some a lil less. but if its good quality its worth it.
3)a turbo 6 will beat a stock gt.. or modified, depending on how severe.
4)not me.
I have the proturbokit on my 2000 V6. I am the demo vehicle for proturbokits.com This kit is great. $3500 is a good deal. If you get it from proturbokits.com it's like $4300! Yes you will beat a GT, trust me. My best time at the track, and keep in mind that I have stock gears still and street tires, is 14.1@106mph. My mph is high so the shop said once I put on my gear, I should be at least in the mid 13's! Especially once I put my drag radials and t-lok on. It's the best damn money I've spent on my car. I know it'll run better with gears. I ran this guy with a '97 Cobra and he ran a 13.8@106. When we got done he freaked out because we had the same mph so even he said once I get my gears I should be pulling better 1/4 times 'cause right now my 60' isn't that great, 2.22-2.44's is what I get right now. I've even taken a standard '97 Trans-Am from a dead stop from turn-around-to-turn-around on the access road. He took me at first but then I went by him and kept on going.
grnstang316,
that sounds really sweet! i am sick of spending so much money on all of these naturally asperated parts and not getting much of a horsepower gain. i am ready to go big and invest in the turbo!!! what would you say was your true horsepower gain from the turbo? are you in the 300's?!
Hey Bradley, What kit are you thinking about getting and who is offering it? And now for my question on Turboing a V6. I am looking into doing it myself and am gathering info to make the right call when $$$ rolls in. I know I don't want to go with a S/C but a turbo but I don't know what set up is the best and will keep my engin in one working piece. I am looking a a twin turbo set up (both same size), or a Dual turbo set up (one smaller, one larger) I heard of the dual set up from a friend who claims that the smaller turbo will give you boost sooner and then the larger turbo will take over. That sounds a little out there for me but maybe I wronge. I am feeling more strongly about the twin set up if I can run it with upgraded engin parts and be safe. Also thinking that I might stroke the engin if it's worth it. What do you guys think??

Also how do you all feel about running TT set up with NOS on a V6?

It would would definitely rebulid the motor to handle all the boost you want to run. You can run two different size turbos one to help with the bottom end lag, but it will make your install even harder and matching the two different size turbos and getting them both to work togher might take some work. Youll be able to make all the power your stock block can handle with a single turbo. You can use nitrous to make up for the bottom end lag of a big turbo as well as using it to cool down the intake charge so you can get away with running a little more boost while on the juice.

At 8psi, the shop dynoed the car.
The printout they had showed 320@crank
230@rear and 371 torque.
Right now I'm running 10psi on stock internals and everything is going great. About 2500 rpms, my boost kicks in and away I go. I love the way my car pulls when it shifts (it's an auto). When I punch it from the line, my tires spin and when it shifts into 2nd, the tires chirp like crazy. Actually I'm really glad I didn't go with a Procharger. Nothing against Procharger, it's just that I like boosting alot sooner. In the next week or so, I'll be getting it dynoed at 10psi and let ya'll know how the numbers came out, or if I can get my friend to scan it, I'll post it.

No, on a V6, 190 is at the crank, engine, whatever you want to call it. I went from 190hp at the engine to 320 at the engine with 8psi. Now I can't wait to have it dynoed at 10psi.

No problem bro. I called the Ford dealership across the street from where I work first before I told you. Wanted to make sure I had correct info. Yeah I'll keep ya posted.
