Ok, forgive my no0bish-ness, if these have been posted some where else or something. I am looking at buying a fox for a project drag car. I don't want to do NA mods, just supercharge it. I am new to mustangs. What kind of supporting mods would I need, and what would you guys do? I know I need to upgrade the full exhaust. Should I upgrade the heads, cams and intake mani also? How much hp can the stock clutch hold? I assume I'd need larger injectors, fuel pump? It would be a newer fuel injected, mass air flow metered one. Do you guys use any kind of engine management for these?
What are your guy's favorite kits? Where are the best places to buy one? How much do they run for new, and how much used?
If you guys could answer my questions or point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks
ok, some more questions. Can I supercharge a older engine with like 150k miles without problems? Whats the oldest the engine should be you're going to boost? I want to run low 12's or high 11's. I would strip the interior, this wouldn't be my daily driver. If I upgrade the heads, would I want to lower the compression some? I don't think I want to swap out the pistons, so could I switch up the headgasket? If so, is there a common setup of heads/block/headgasket you guys do to lower the compression some? What's the stock compression on one of these engines?
How strong are the stock trannys?
Are all 5.0's 302/HO's ? If they aren't, how do you tell them apart?

I would do that without a doubt.....probably 30#er's, a 255lph pump and an fmu to help ensure you maintane good fuel feed to the injectors....

You will also need a new maf.....get something like a C&L 76mm......and a 65mm throttle body.........the stock 55mm throttle body will work for now, but with the larger throttle body, you will get better metered air into your engine......

yes, but don't go over 8#'s of boost
As far as the engine's go.........you can use some mls gaskets (multilayered), get a thicker gasket and that will help achieve a lower compression..........

it can do 350 to 400 without alot of problems....the tranny on the other hand (T5) it seems to be the weak link......i would look at upgrading that down the road......Tko, tremec, x2cmotorsport's...etc.... Is that hp or tq? To the wheels or crank? (speaking of which, about what is the % drivetrain loss on mustangs?) How much do those trannys go for? What about the rear end? Also, I hear about people replacing the gears?

I see the 3 kits for hte vortec, whats the difference between the first and second(i see the third has a air/water intercooler)? Bigger pulley?

I guess I should find a car now. I am thinking about buying a 90 4cyl AT with a blown engine that a guy wants 250 bucks for, and this other dude is selling a 89 5.0 gt 5spd that he slid sideways into a pole for 1500 ( I th ink this might be a little high?) He's got some exhaust stuff and other mods. Thinking about swaping over everything form the gt to the 4cyl. I want to do this project cheaply and I think it'd be cheaper to do something like this than buy a 5.0. I know this isn't the right section but, do you think I'd have any problems passing emmisions with a 89 engine in a 90? I know on the newer cars you're only allowed to put newer engines in a car.

Some major differences to note are that most of these engines used an injection system called "speed density". Speed density does not actually measure the incoming air like a mass air system, but rather infers what the engine is doing by sensor inputs from the throttle position, engine coolant temperature, air charge temperature, manifold vacuum and timing. Since the computer has no idea how much air is actually being drawn into the cylinders, you cannot modify the vacuum to a large degree with something like a head or high performance camshaft change. The engine will most likely suffer from terrible drivability problems, poor idle, and terrible fuel economy. Some people say they have done heads, cams, intakes, throttle bodies, stroker kits, etc on speed density with no problems; we have yet to do the same. The truck injection is even worse, as most systems are speed density and non sequential. Truck injection fires one bank of four injectors at a time, rather than sequentially on each intake cycle of each cylinder in the firing order that promotes way more torque and fuel economy. Our experience early on in our 12 years doing EFI swaps professionally has told us different, and we stay completely away from the truck injection system itself. The engines are not bad in any way, although most are lower profile and make lower power outputs. Many of the accessory brackets are made of completely different castings and parts than the 1989-1993 Mustangs. This makes some installations hard with the early Mustang radiator clearance, battery location and frame supports. The heads, intakes, camshafts, throttle bodies, injectors, and virtually all other parts aside from the shortblock in these other vehicles are less aggressive profiles. The injectors are usually 17lb lower flow units with a gray color, while some are also 19lb units like the 1989-1993 Mustang. The fuel rails are generally designed differently also and are not as easy to work with when routing fuel lines as most of them had custom steel tubes from Ford that routed them away from the exhaust that do not fit in early Mustangs well. Virtually every different vehicle made by Ford had a different style of wiring, although they do the same thing. It is ridiculous to think that Ford would reinvent the wheel every time for each different car, but they have done so with almost every wiring system in each of the cars we are talking about. Some harness have two parts, some have three or four. Some have an external alternator regulator, some have injector harness as a part of the computer harness. Any way you look at it, the 1989-1993 Mustang wiring is the simplest mass-air factory harness to work with and that's why we use it. We have no need to make a customer confused with different and more complicated wiring systems, nor the time to research every wiring kit for each vehicle over the years of 5.0L fuel injection when one setup can work easily and effectively on an engine making 150 horsepower all the way to 600 horsepower like our 67 Mustang Fastback racecar. We like to keep things as simple as possible, yet still use factory components for easy part replacement for maintenance down the line. This ensures you are not married to us each time you need a replacement part and that you can get a relatively cheap Mustang replacement item rather than a more expensive Lincoln or Mercury part that does the same exact thing.
The stock head's on most 87-93 mustangs are E-7's, while they are a decent head, they do nothing for air flow. You may just want to look at doing some aftermarket aluminum heads. You will be ahead in the long run with your supercharger addition.

Yes, i would just stick with stock for now, unless you plan on using ton's of boost, stock head gasket's should work just fine..........we link are generally the piston's.....i believe most year's under 92 have forged piston's, which are fine....

hp.....to the wheels......i believe it is like 15%...........and i would slap in some 3.73 gear's.....it is a great ratio for a power adder.......

I believe it is just a pully.........not to sure though, i am more of a turbo man, but power adder's like these have one thing in common, compressing air.........
