Question 06 Mustang GT (STOCK)

I just Bought a 2006 Mustang GT With the 5 speed manual Transmission. My plans for the car are to upgrade the car to be able to use it as a dailiy driver but also do 1/4 mile racing on the weekends with it. My question is, What transmission or what upgrades to the transmission and clutch would you recommend for the car to be able to take the strain of the occasional race. I am aiming for the car to be somewhere in the 800 to 1000+ rwhp. Thanks for any advice you may have.

Well a new engine for anything over 500 rwhp and a new transmission with anything over 400 rwhp. I have seen a lot of the 3V not even last at 350 rwhp so far with no lean conditions either. Most race owners are putting the Cobra 03-04 engine in the cars to survive. You will get a lot of opinions but the warranty is short and it will be even shorter if you start modifing.

That's funny 800- 1000 rwhp on a daily driver

Don't daily drive your race car and don't make your daily driver a race car. That much power is a race car. I don't think you understand that 400-500 rwhp is a lot of power.

I just talked to a guy Sunday and he has a 92 or 93 GT. He had a 356 in it and it was awesome he said. But he dropped the bottom end out of it so now hes building a 408 that hes looking at making 1000 hp with and then hitting it with a 500 shot. Its gonna be his daily driven street car. Its like he says, why have a car that you love so much and only get to drive it after you back it off the trailer at the track. And its like this, if you ever roll up on someone with a, say 500-600 hp cobra or something, you will have your a$$ covered without having to hit the bottle or something. I'd drive it if I could afford it.

For that kind of power you are looking at an ENTIRE build up of the suspension, rear end, transmission, engine, fuel system, brakes, frame reinforcement. I'm not sure you grasp how much power that really is, it will take some driving skill just to drive down the road. A slight slip of the clutch and your in someone's ass or the wall. There is no room for error. 500rwhp would be much more obtainable, less expensive, capable of road use and still be faster than 99% of cars on the road. Not to mention a heep load cheaper.

Good luck on the project anyways. Hope your pockets are real deep.

Your engine can have 1000rwhp, but with pump gas the engine can only produce 700rwhp. what are you going to do with the 300rwhp left over?

I don't exactly know what i'm going to do but I'm thinking of reconsidering my estimate and going for more into the the range of of what you said as the max and trying to find someway to achieve at least 800, which should be sufficent

Should be sufficient lol I would hope so! If you wanted a car that could possibly make that kind of power you should have bought an 03/04 cobra and modded the hell out of it lol. Get Real! An 800-1000 hp 06 GT would not be what you would call a daily driver lol that's a race car. I don't know where you're goin with this. Like it was said earlier 500 hp is a lot of power and takes quite a bit of skill to tame a beast like that. Strap a blower on the 06 and you'll be set. I am sure you won't lose many races.

Oh I bet he loses all the races. If hes like me and gets to drifting all over the road while the other car just runs off and leaves me.

sorry to say but I can't see getting your 06 to 800 rwhp with any ease. it's gonna take a hell of alot of time and money. if you've got that, then I'm sure someone will help you achieve your goal. 800hp on a daily driver though, that's not too common and not in any way practical.

Agree its not practical, but what the hell if you got an extra $30-50k or so.... Maybe more I don't know?? I would start with a built bottom end with low compression (maybe 8-8.5:1) then look into turbo kits. You may have to piece together a kit to work. Figure $3-4k for suspension, tires, roll cage..etc... The strongest manual trans I know of is the TKO 600 which is rated for 600lb of torque. Maybe if you had the thing cryogenicly frozen it might stay together???? have no clue about clutch...Spec, Mccloud???? It can be done, but may I suggest drag racing school or some other type of school so you don't kill yourself. 500-600 rwhp will be much more attainable and streetable, but I say go for it. The easiest way to go would be to drop in a complete 03-04 Cobra drivetrain and slap a KB 2.4 on it. How fast of times are you looking for in the 1/4??? 6...7...8.... With the right setup and driving you can get 9s with 500-600 rwhp.

My advice is this. if you are wanting an 800-1000rwhp car and you have to ask about transmission upgrades, then you shouldn't be planning an 800-1000rwhp car. that is a lot of horsepower and requires a lot of custom work to the car and a quite a bit of experienced hands wrenching on the motor and tranny. I would hire a reputable fabricator to do the work for me. that way i don't have to worry about tranny issues, or sub frame issues, or motor issues.
stick with the bolt ons and read other peoples trials and successes to build your car.
