Question 429 swap??

I am currently driving an '89 LX with a 2.3 in it right now but am looking into swap that out and I was wondering what all would have to be done to cram an old Boss 429 engine into my car. I will be upgrading suspension and transmission and drivtrain so that isn't a problem right now. I was told by a couple people it wouldn't fit and I figured I would ask some actual mustang people to get another opinion on the subject. Any help you guys could give me would be great, thanks!

The engine should fit in the engine compartment, I have heard of people putting 514s in Foxs. Dont have any other advice, never done this swap.

Well Tang it will fit but its going to be a little tight. there are several things that you will be needing to get so it will make it easier on you.

1 FMS motor mounts, 429-460 jegs or summit carry them
2 FMS Conversion oil pan 429-460 into fox body, from J or Summit
3 Headers, hooker makes a very good set. but not sure if they will work with the boss or not. you will have to contact holley on that.
4 Patients, friends and a support system.
5 if all else fails plenty to drink.

but really it will fit. 429-460-514-533 they all fit. any more question just ask.

If it don't go fast park it. Its either all pedal or stopped. No in between allowed.

Well,

If you're talking an actual "Boss" 429 it may not fit. The heads on that monster are huge. Custom headers would be a must.

Now a 429, 429PI, 429CJ, or 429SCJ would fit with a 460 swap kit.

Hey guys thanks for the help. And yeah I am looking into an actual boss engine not just a crate 429, I know a few people in my area with a boss or two that is just sitting laying to waste. I will check on all the parts given and see where I can go from there. And of course if anybody else has more advice it is always welcome. Thanks!

you know, i read an article a few years back where a 604 ci motor was crammed into an early or mid 90's stang. not sure if the engine bay dimensions are the same for the 89, but all they had to do was dimple a shock tower to get it to fit.
they also did a massive brake upgrade to that same mustang at the same time.
i think the 0-60-0 numbers were in the 13 second range or faster.

my advice. get some long life spark plugs. that tune up would be a major pain in the arse.

I did some more research since I heard about the two cars I talked about before

I believe he has gotten rid of one of his cars and the other is not a Boss but it is a MACH 1 and it needs alot of work, though I am not sure about the condition of the engine, but believe it is probably in need of a complete rebuild and cleaning etc. But would be worth it if I had the money to work on it.

I'd buy the 'dinosaur kit' from PAW i believe its 520 or 521 cubic inches -- we used to have one in an 86; its based off of a 460 of course and it was backed with a C6 -- car MOVED.

All in all the project cost ~5gs including the purchase of a roller.

As I said -- the vehicle MOVED OUT.

Best Regards,
G
