Default 4.6L Mustang having some trouble

I got a 2001 Mustang 4.6L V*. I have ceramic headers, a throttle body spacer, 3 in flowmaster catback exhuast, and the rubber buffer by the air intake has been ripped out. The car is running nice, but since I hardly have any knowledge under the hood of a cra, I'm curious about what I should do next. This car is an automatic (don't ask). I'm think about throwing 373 gears in the back but I was told that will only increase top end. what can I do right now to squeeze some horsepower out of this beast. I am planning on putting a supercharger in it some day, but right now dont have the funds. What can I do as a small mod that will gain me some horses.

What's up man, Definatly go with some gears, they will actually decrease your top end, the severity depends on the size of the gears but, will give you a better jump off the line and put you in the powerband quicker. Most people with auto's go with 373,390, or 410, you kind of have to decide the ratio that better suits your driving habits. Maybe a 75mm TB and a mid pipe, other than that I would work on suspension, brakes and tranny until you decided on what S/C you are going with so you don't waste money on mods you will have to take back off.

Driving it around town 4.10s should do fine, but if drive the car around town and highway or interstate you might want 3.73s. I'de say 3.73s are about the max for a every day londistance driver. I drive drove mine every day but just around town and I had 4.10s with a 5 speed.

I have 4.10's in my 98 gt but as soon as i got them i had to re-learn how to launch it because you will get almost no traction if you launch on the street without warming up the tires first but the gears helped soo much. And I didn't notice a huge decline in my miledge on the freeways either. but yea the gear swap is a MUST.

I have 4.10's with an auto on a 27 inch tall tire (255/45/18) and rpms are 3000 at 80mph and my gas mileage MIGHT have dropped 1mpg. If you are serious about going with an s/c later, go 3.73's.

As far as mods......go for the N20!! Talk about bang for the buck!! I installed my kit in 4.5 hours, and have raced serveral weekends on just the 100 shot. As long as your a/f ratio is right, (I confirmed mine with a dynotune), N20 will be reliable run after run with no more engine wear then any other power adder. But instead of spending 5k on a blower or more on a turbo, I spent $539 on a Zex kit.
